Yeah, we have had a hurricane and other stuff happen, but I can't remember a major story dropping off the radar quite that fast. Oh sure, you can still find it online, but basically it's gone.

It was Pretty Big Stuff, too, as I remember. Maybe a little walking-around-cash and a minor threat or two took care of it. Let's see if there's a resolution. I suspect it's basically Gone.

Well, he can't be all bad. He did give us Roger Ailes.

1. No news story can hold people's attention for long these days.
This one ran its course. If there are new developments, it will return to the news. If not, it will be replaced by the news story du jour. Most recently, that story was Irene. We have very short attention spans in this country, and the Murdoch story appeared to most people to be about the UK. Most people don't much care about stuff like that. Understanding what the total story is just isn't simple enough for them to grasp.

DUers are a bit more attentive. At least some of them are.

4. I have confidence that it will be back.
Especially with the questions surrounding the hacking of 911 families.

5. It hasn't gone away. Follow the British media
and you'll see what is going on with them. Last week, eg, there was another arrest, the 13th so far I believe.

Just because the US media isn't covering something, doesn't mean the rest of the world is not.

9. The latest on the Murdoch scandal from Aug. 30th:
Scotland Yard Keeps Accused Journalists’ Names Private; UK High Court Likely To Call Murdochs

While Rupert Murdoch and his son James await a likely summons to the UK High Court to answer more questions under oath about News Corp’s involvement in the News of the World phone-hacking scandal, there is a report today that lawyers for News Corp arm News International are looking into reporting practices, financial records and emails at their UK newspapers — specifically to see whether there’s anything there that could be construed as violations of the U.S.’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Meanwhile, the inquiry at the Royal Courts of Justice that would include questions to Rupert and James Murdoch could get underway by October. Prime Minister David Cameron and other politicians also could be called. A UK Telegraph report said letter already have been sent to potential witnesses, who also could include former News International CEO Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, both former NOTW editors.

The revelations come amid an FBI-led probe in the U.S. that seeks to find out whether some of the illegal practices used at the now-defunct News of the World — namely hacking phones of the families of London bombing victims and murdered children — could have happened here to the families of 9/11 victims. The Murdochs are attempting to uncover publicly the extent of the phone-hacking as at least one U.S.-based analyst has downgraded News Corp stock while Wall Street questions what exactly to make of the company, which consistently beats earnings estimates but has taken a severe PR hit with the scandal that already has cost News Corp its bid to buy UK giant BSkyB.

There was an OP here yesterday I think, by Madfloridian which stated that NY had withdrawn millions of dollars that was going to the Murdoch empire in connection with Education. The scandal was the reason.

10. All sorts of things are going on
They lost a large contract this week, investors are investigating them, and more hearings next month, should feature Rupert under oath and maybe Cameron.

12. The American media refuses to focus on it, for one thing...
However:

Murdoch's daughter had to cancel a speaking engagement.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/aug/22/elisabeth-murdoch-tv-festival

and

The scumbag female chief exec of News International, Rebekkah, is still being paid by Murdoch's company and she's been told to travel for a year and then they'll hire her again.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/8684463/Phone-hacking-Rupert-Murdoch-tells-Rebekah-Brooks-to-travel-the-world.html

and

Michael Wolff admits that Murdoch is the most powerful individual on the planet.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/video/2011/aug/09/michael-wolff-rupert-murdoch-video

And, in my native language, Spanish, I saw these and am now translating them to post here:

According to Sky News on August 30, 2011, Stuart Kuttner, the ex-chief exec of "News Of The World", was arrested and released under bond as a suspect in the corruption due to illegal payments to the police, and hacking telephone calls. http://www.informador.com.mx/internacional/2011/318520/6/detienen-de-nuevo-a-exdirector-de-news-of-the-world.htm

and

Murdoch's son bribed victims of the phone hackings.
http://www.lahora.cl/2011/08/18/01/noticias/mundo/8-10820-9-murdoch-hijo-pago-soborno-a-victimas-de-las-escuchas.shtml

And there's more...

Just not in the American media. The American media is trash.
