26. Obama has to act appropriately to gain the respect that he deserves. |
|
If he is always folding to rethuglican demands; then he cannot expect to gain respect from the rethuglicans nor his dispirited base.

voice a concern then, they're using this, again, to try to show their superiority. :puke:
He'll stand firm.

33. Until he doesn't. First time ever a President has been denied |
|
a chance to speak to the joint house. He will compete with the kickoff of the 2011-2012 FML opener Thursday instead.
I get you standing by him, but he folded. Again.

10. Honestly, does anyone really care if he gives the speech Wed or Thurs? |
|
Stand firm on FEMA, stand firm on income inequality, stand firm for the rule of law. But agreeing to move the speech date by one day is not a big deal. And I'm someone who bashes Obama all the time for being weak.

21. Totally agree ... standing firm on this when you give in |
|
on everything of importance would be ridiculous and almost insulting. Let them have the date, give in graciously and fight for what is really important FOR THE PEOPLE unless political game playing is more important.

He might hold it at the same time, but it wouldn't be before congress.

18. If the Rs refuse to invite Obama to address the Joint Session |
|
Or, if DeMint gums up the works as he has threatened----Obama wins.
He will give the speech elsewhere on the 7th and make the Rs look petty and impotent.
Message: Teapublicans have no interest in programs to put Americans back to work.
Brilliant and subtle. All subtext.

22. If he wants to give it to a joint session of Congress, |
|
he has to be invited. He can't just show up and start talking. Likewise, the leaders of Congress have to ask to be invited to the WH. They can't just show up unannounced.

25. That's what he wants to do, |
|
but he requested the meeting be scheduled the same date and time as the Repub. debate. Boehner suggested the next night, Obama agreed. Going to be interesting, as now his speech to Congress is going to conflict with the NFL game.
