Will NBC break away from NFL Week 1 for Obama's speech?
I see that NBC is airing the NFL season opener between New Orleans and Green Bay at 8:30 EDT on Thursday, September 8. Will they interrupt the NFL game to carry Obama's speech or will the speech be completed by kick-off time?

2. No.
Obama's speech must not interfere with anything. Everything else is just too important.

handling of Republicans as anyone here. But really, I don't see the big deal here.

If they haven't announced the time of the speech yet, then make it before the game. In fact, that might be a good way to get people to watch it as they will be tuning in for the game anyhow.

I'd rather save the outrage for more important things. Republicans were just thrilled to play 'gotcha' here, but I doubt it will get them many points with the American people.

7. Mmm, well, that is a problem.
The only thing I can think of is to start the speech early anyhow. Not much choice at this point, it seems.

4. unless they also changed the time of the speech, I don't know that
any of those speeches last more than on hour! Why would anyone have to break away for anything?

6. Doesn't matter
Not a whole bunch of those football fans would watch the speech anyway;
and now the Repuglycan Congressjerks have to watch The President--
instead of watching football...

And while I'm dreaming, Obama can take his long overdue shot at Scott Walker et al while in Wisconson.

9. Wait, let me get this straight...
He could give his speech any time he wanted and it wouldn't make any difference, and he chose to schedule it concurrent with the NFL season opener?

I'm speechless.

10. I think he planned it for the day before
and it was Boehner's idea to move it to game time.

11. I don't know if it is going to conflict with the NFL or not
But he could give it earlier in the day if he wanted.

13. Couldn't he make it Tuesday instead of Thursday then?
That would probably be better.

18. I wouldn't.
They can just stream the speech on their website. It's going to be on every other channel. It's not like folks who want to watch the speech won't have another option to view it.
