Obama didn't cave - Boner has to let Obama have the joint session. |
|
Obama did not cave to Boner. The republicans did not win.
Obama requested a joint session. Its a request, not a right. Boner must agree or there is no joint session. Its as simple as that.
Boner can tell Obama to go pound sand, and there isnt a single thing Obama can do. Its just reality.
So when speaker says its going to be the 8th, its going to be the 8th.
If I were Obama I would have moved it to the 9th, avoid competing with football.

35. The average American will read about it in the paper tomorrow, hear or see it on the news. |
|
They'll think, "wow, Obama gave in again". What else are they to think? It sure looks like he picked the date to pick a fight with the Republicans and then backed down. Why pick that date and time in the first place if that is what he was going to do?

3. No, that's not the way it happened... |
|
Obama requested a date, no one objected.
Obama announced the speech, and the GOP went for the power play. Rather than call them on it, he caved. He always caves. It's very disappointing.

9. Here's a thought how about Obama saying I will be there to |
|
speak to a joint session of Congress I don't give a f--- if they show up or not. Then go and speak to the Democrats if that's all that shows up. Where are the Democrats to back him? Seems all they do is leave the guy out there with no backing. How about Pelosi and Read saying f--- the Republicans we will be there?

7. They allowed it to be announced. |
|
It should have been corrected before all this came about. They let it go while everyone talked about what a great political play it was, let Limbaugh get all het up about it on air and nobody said anything until Boner said no. Ooooh, he has them where he wants them now. Yup, sure he did. He caved, faster than usual too.

24. Really? You speak for him? |
|
He is not my enemy. I don't care for him but I could come around if he did something positive for us "little people". What he has done has been little, bargained easily away or been dragged along until he could not do anything else but do it. <----I am being polite here.
I have no blinders on. I would be thrilled if he changed into a leader with liberal intentions. I could easily be lead to his camp if he did those things.
I don't feel petty I feel pissed. I don't have to like anyone and I don't have to agree with anyone and I do not do party over policies. In fact I am not a Democrat.
Anyway, have fun making enemies out of people who really are not an enemy at all. Oh yes, it is not you who you say is my enemy it is Obama. Frankly I don't think he knows I exist and it does not seem to me that he knows most of us are even here.

Sit in front of a camera, in the oval office, and tell the American people what he plans to do. And, how we can help. Skip Boehner. Why wait until the 8th anyway.

to be assertive and aggressive on his policies and to press forward.
whatever happens to Obama, it's unavoidable because he can't stop it.
and since he can't stop it, can you blame him for not appearing to try very hard to stop it?

it's amazing how little some of Obama's most loyal supporters think of his abilities to persuade without breaking the law or violating the constitution.
the mind boggles.
yet us, his critics, but critics who would be admirers if he actually more vigorously pursued and defended his campaign platform (with some exceptions). and his most loyal supporters? happy to have him give up on his promises, even those policies necessary to ensure his reelection.
ironic.

There's no reason on earth why it absolutely had to be in front of Congress. He could have given the speech from the White House and delared victory.
