2. "If this was a dictatorship it'd be a heck of a lot easier. As long as I'm the dictator" |
|
George W. Bush
I too would fully support a dictator, but only if I agreed with all of his policies

6. uppityperson, the past 6 months have enlightened me as to the 'appeal' of the dictatorship... |
|
...of the proletariat. I completely understand now. I never understood it because it just seemed counterintuitive to me, but it's making sense. People can't deal with being generally weak and ineffectual individuals and want to cede their collective will (which arguably is in fact very strong) to a central authority that has massive power and is not, by itself, weak.
It is also why I have come to recognize the dictatorship of the proletariat to be the greatest threat to humankind, as it won't go away. And it is nothing more than a corporate state hegemony which is not fundamentally different than capitalism gone awry.

8. Quick question for you. Wasn't the Paris Commune very democratic and didn't Engles say the following |
|
"Well and good, gentlemen, do you want to know what this dictatorship looks like? Look at the Paris Commune. That was the Dictatorship of the Proletariat"

12. You mean the anarchistic Paris Commune that Marx and Engels were critical of? |
|
Particularly the lack of a "coherent organizational structure"?
See, you could call a decentralized direct democracy a "dictatorship of the proletariat," but it wouldn't resemble that of the vanguard and I personally don't think it qualifies and it is just Engels coopting the ultimate good of anarchism.
Hilariously both Marx and Engels saw the Paris Commune as stateless but then went on to argue that a state was necessary for the transition to communism!

20. Here's a fascinating read you may enjoy: |
|
http://anarchism.pageabode.com/anarcho/the-paris-commune-marxism-and-anarchismIt discusses this more in depth, because the anarchists did have criticisms for the Paris Commune, too (as far as centralization led to its demise).

17. Some prefer to govern as if the other side doesn't exist. This produces nothing that lasts. |
|
Even if we are 100% right, we can never have it our way or the highway, without dooming that change to eventual repeal.

15. Or a king would be nice...Some of our 'founding fathers' wanted |
|
Geo. Washington to be declared a king. With 'balls',of course. A dictatorship would be a lot simpler. No 'compromising' in Congress, and best of all, on DU, no calling the dictator 'weak, ineffective' and all that sort of traitorous stuff.
