I have a suggestion for the super committee: |
|
You people are going to be making some difficult decisions--for us. You, yourselves are not affected.
Therefore, I propose the following, in order to connect you directly with the decisions you are about to make. What you do affects tens of millions of us that do not have a big salary or pension to fall back on. So......
Anything you cut for the country, you cut for members of Congress tenfold.
Cut Social Security or Medicare 1%, cut it for members of Congress 10%. Cut either for the public 10%, cut Medical Insurance and pension plans for members of Congress 100%. Then, when you say you feel our pain, we'll be able to believe you.

1. Couldn't agree more, my dear DFW... |
|
It's such a good piece of advice that you know they won't take it.
Hope you're feeling well!
:hi:

2. I'm recovering nicely, thanks! |
|
Of course, you never really know, and my follow-up gave me plenty of warnings, but if I sit around trembling that I might croak from one moment to the next (which I well could), I'd miss out on whatever time I have left. I've got better things to do. Let's just say that I do not expect to have my obituary appearing on DU (or anywhere else) in the near future, and if it does, I won't be around to whine about it anyway, will I?
I fear you are right--my advice to the super committee will garner about as much attention as a drop of water at noon on one of our 106° Dallas sidewalks, and for about as long. But I'm used to that! LOL!!

4. That part got nixed, unfortunately. My sister-in-law is going for me. |
|
We needed someone with good Japanese, and mine sucks anyway.
She IS Japanese, and so speaks it rather better than I anyway.
Next year, I hope. Or else, stop by our place in Germany next time you're in Europe. (How was Iceland, by the way?)

7. Sorry you won't be here! Of course I understand... |
|
Iceland was great!
I'll email you the links to the pics...
There's (hopefully) always next year!

5. My sense is that they will never agree on a deal. |
|
The automatic cuts will kick in, causing many at the Pentagon to soil themselves. (even though the Defense budget is so large, it won't be that big of a hit)

6. I dunno. They just might |
|
And if they do, you just KNOW it'll be some wishy-washy deal that we hate and Bonehead does, too, but will still crow that he got "98% of what he wanted," because next year there's an election coming up.
