The crystal-clear air of the Swiss Alps is a perfect place for a gathering of air-cooled vintage VW Beetles.

More than 1,000 bugs and their Karman Ghia cousins, will be parking in the pastures surrounding the historic village of Chateau d’Oex, in the Alpine foothills east of Lake Geneva this weekend, August 26-28, 2011.

1. Wow - takes me back.
The beige one on the far right looks just like the one I owned back in the day. Most reliable car I ever owned even if the safety was questionable and the bodies rusted way before the engine ever gave out. Thanks for the memory.

3. I really have a thing for Splitties ...
... but one of my Scoutmasters in Boy Scouts had a Loaf. We used to vie for the most coveted spot in the van--the flat over top of the engine compartment.
