Army and Air Force Approve Sales on Bases of Gay Magazine
Army and Air Force Approve Sales on Bases of Gay Magazine

Later this month the U.S. military will officially begin allowing homosexuals to serve openly. On the day this landmark change takes effect, gays and lesbians in two branches of the armed services will also be able to buy copies of a new magazine for homosexual soldiers.

As of September 20, the Department of Defense will formally end enforcement of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that was used to kick homosexuals out of the military.

On this same date, the U.S. Army and Air Force will allow the sale of OutServe magazine on military bases.

OutServe is a non-profit organization that boasts more than 4,000 actively serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered members of the military. Their bi-monthly magazine, which launched in the spring, includes such features as the Ask Sarge advice column and The OutHeroes Project, which, after September 20, will honor active members of the military..

2. What a given base exchange carries is generally up to local managment
I would not expect to see GLBT magazines on the shelves in the PX any time soon.
