New York Republican threatens to withhold hurricane relief from her own district
Source: Raw Story

Freshman House Republican Nan Hayworth's New York district was one of the hardest hit by Hurricane Irene, but the congresswoman seems to be working against her own interests by holding disaster relief hostage in a effort to slash federal spending, according to a recent report.

"We're facing a natural disaster in the middle of an economic disaster," The Middletown Times Herald-Record quoted Hayworth as saying Wednesday. "Certainly, the challenges we face with the national budget have not changed."

The lawmaker pledged to only vote for additional disaster relief funds if they were offset by cuts to "non-defense discretionary spending."

"Hayworth likened her position to a family skipping vacation if it was overwhelmed by bills," the Times Herald-Record's Adam Bosch noted.

17. YES!, The Dems should sign a PLEDGE saying they won't hold up Fema Funds.
If The Thugs can sign pledges...so can the Dems!

7. Is this about Nan "One Term" Hayworth?
This freshman idealist really believes the Tea Baggers voted her in to cut them off at the knees. I think she'll learn a valuable lesson come election time when a new shiny object catches the voters eye.

11. I absolutely knew this was about Hayworth before I even read...
...the main article. I live in this district- Republicans know they're immune here, because this district so blindly votes Republican 90% of the time. They can do whatever they want, and voters don't care because "We gotta vote Republican". We have a Town Supervisor in a nearby town who has had multiple DWI incidents, yet he keeps on getting re-elected because of that "We gotta vote Republican" mindset. Greg Ball is our local State Senator. Some of you may be familiar with him, if not- do a Goggle search on that character. You would think a district located just 90 minutes out of NYC would be a little more liberal- you'd be wrong. Welcome to what I deal with here. :grr:

14. Hi, neighbor!
I'm obviously in your district, maybe even in your town. I ran for office a few years ago, and learned the hard way that if "steaming pile of dog crap" had an "R" next to it, it would be elected.

I am well acquainted with Michael Rights ("I crashed my Porsche while drunk driving 2 weeks before Election Day and got elected anyway") and the odious Mr. Ball. Regrettably, I had the opportunity to run him over once when he was grandstanding in the middle of my town. I didn't do it because I didn't want to hurt the dog.

PM me, we should get together :hi:

13. The economic diaster was engineered. It would be very easy to remedy
if they had the political will to end the wars, raise taxes on the rich and corporations and fine companies who outsource...but that's not what they want. It's up to us to make sure that ALL Americans know this!

19. You don't live here. You don't know.
If Jesus (D) ran against Steaming Pile of Dog Crap (R) in this district, guess who'd win? This district was engineered very carefully to encompass a patchwork of semi-rural communities composed mainly of blue collar folks. There is not enough liberal in the mix from some of the more affluent areas to tip it leftward. People here are deeply religious (90% Catholic) and conservative, lots of veterans and older folks. And hunters. We're a little slice of Michigan in New York (sorry, Michigan).

We had a GREAT four years with John Hall, who did wonderful things for the district, like looking out for veterans, and infrastructure projects...and he fell by just a few points to Ms. Invisible Tea Bagger.

21. NY19 was owned by Republican Hamilton Fish for decades
Then he handed it to Sue Kelly. John Hall was a fluke, and I am certain they do not wish to revisit that anomaly. Ms. Hayworth is extremely well bankrolled by monied interests.
