Illinois Sends 100 National Guard Troops to Vermont to Help with Irene
Chicago - One hundred Illinois National Guard troops are heading for Vermont to help out with the relief effort from Tropical Storm Irene.

Six Blackhawk helicopters and two Chinook helicopters were being sent along with ground vehicles to help deliver food to communities cut off by the storm.

The troops were originally sent to New York, but have now been diverted to help in Vermont.

1. Now, that's the America I know! Good for them.
I'm sure the helicopters will be welcomed, as well. That warms my heart.

3. I feel so bad for them.
Wife and I were going to go on vacation there, but now we cannot. We cannot even get in to help.

I just wish we could do more.

They are a state that thrives on tourism and local goods. They take absolute pride in their "Made in Vermont" products.

The disaster is going to hurt a lot of small businesses.

6. I know... and it pains me
it also pains me that it will be forgotten THIS FAST... some economists have argued the region, not just VT, has not fully recovered from Isabelle... this is not going to help...
