make every government service pay per use
you want to travel, hand over money per miles travelled, airport fee, use of air traffic control, custom office, passport office
you want to buy foreign goods, pay for custom office and port fee and inspection fee, etc
you want your bank accounts insured, that a charge per $1000 of balance you want insured per month
you need to use an embassy abroad? that's a fee
you need to report a crime, well okay but we charge by the minute to listen to you, and you pay per consultant assigned to your incident
you need a medical subscription, well thats really expensive too. We have to pay inspectors and the FDA for monitoring and approving drug trials and we need law enforcement to guard against drug misuse
you want to invest in stocks or bonds? well we need to verify that you funds are not coming from terrorists groups, and we need to pay for the SEC, and so on....

no more free rides

1. I hope this is sarcasm...
You do, taxes.

As to your first point, you do, it is in the ticket

Oh and local cops and EMS now cover to respond since they do not have a good enough tax base.

2. of course its sarcasm
the GOP doesn't think the government does anything useful...when you have to pay for it you notice what you are paying for

3. actually the ticket fee doesn't cover all those items
it probably covers the landing fee but Air traffic control is not paid for by the airlines, nor is the custom office, or the passport office or whatever facilities are provided at the airport

4. We already pay an extra fee for a lot of that stuff.
Gas taxes, FDIC fees, custom charges and on and on.

6. you do not pay a fully allocated cost for anything you use
gas tax is not sufficient for maintenance of roads, bridges etc....why do you think we have a crumbling infrastructure if the money was sufficient and allocated to those things?

7. I wonder how rich people would feel if they had to pay a fee every time a stock they owned

had a truck on the highway. It is the trucks that tear up the asphalt on the roads, not the cars I'd pay to see that.
