Poll question: I just hate asking this, but I really want to know... |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-01-11 08:40 PM by AsahinaKimi
September 11th is soon approaching. Do you think we could have another "event" in the United States? It seems September 11th has always been the day things have been targeted by terrorist groups.

there is always a threat from out there... but we over reacted and truly cannot defeat a TACTIC... which is what terrorism is.
But yes, it is always possible. Regardless the response has been such that Al Qaida did more damage than their wildest dreams.

34. Declaring war on "terrorism" |
|
was always stupid as it is a tactic. It's like declaring "war" on the blitzkrieg rather than Nazi Germany. There will always be crazies - often motivated by one crackpot fundy religion or another - and the thing to do is determine who the crazies are and work to undermine them or infiltrate them. There is no such thing as a zero-risk world.
And "terrorism" is a vastly remote threat to any given individual, like being hit on the head by a meteorite. Joblessness, illness and poverty are the real threats to ordinary people. But there's no money in those for the MIC.

2. The economy & prospects of Rethugs back in WH scares me more |
|
than the prospects of any terrorism.
Safer? It is all relative, so who knows... I don't believe that we --in the past ten years-- have done much more than send billions of dollars into the pockets of speculators and contractors, with little real justification/research going in to how they are spent.

I'm sick of the U.S. obsession with 9/11. It gave the bogus Bush administration legitimacy. It created the opening that led to the current economic and social disasters.
It was terrible. It wasn't the only terrible thing that people have done to other people, and certainly not anywhere near the worst. More than double the number of American soldiers have died in Iraq and Afghanistan than died that day, and our casualties are small compared to the civilian deaths in the fucking "war on terror" and the numbers of those we've killed. Add our allies' deaths to that, and we've used 9/11 to cause destruction and death on a much larger scale than 9/11 did.
I'm not afraid. Not before, not during, not since, not now. I have spent not a single moment of my life afraid of terrorists, or worked up in determination to enact revenge, to establish what a bully the U.S. is, or in any other dramatic response.
On the other hand, I'm deeply worried about the damage we've done to the nation allowing election fraud, and allowing neo-liberals to control the Democratic Party. I think it's deeper and longer lasting than 9/11.
If I want to contemplate possible terrorist actions and targets, all I have to do is look at the domestic terrorists attacking civil rights, attacking labor, attacking education, attacking social and economic justice...
THOSE are the most dangerous terrorists out there.

Our country is being destroyed from within. The damage is far worse and far more widespread and longlasting than anything any terrorist could possibly do.

waging wars (and killing people!) all over the globe.
of course, typically they are the same lovely people who terrorize us economically on the domestic front; but... at least, they are not hunting us down with drones... yet.
how we the people put up with this shit is beyond comprehension, really.

I'm working on getting my new song ready by the 11th. Here are the lyrics:
We Want The Truth
It’s hard to wrap your head around the blackest kind of evil That brought the towers down and murdered thousands of our people The needed justice for the dead has been delayed for far too long If they’re watching from above they’re singing along with this song Listen to the architects and hear the words of engineers They’ve been speaking truth to lies, been doing so for many years I don’t know who is to blame but this will summarize it all It wasn’t just two planes that day that made three towers fall
We want the truth – We won’t accept the lies (CHORUS) Our people still seek reckoning for the reasons that they died Thousands of people perished and millions of people cried Justice after all this time somehow has been still denied We know that implosion was more than just perhaps The impetus and method that caused their sad collapse They know, they know, but they’ll never tell The real reasons why they made those towers fell
Neptune has drowned and Atlas just sighed Truth has been smothered by all of the lies This cognitive dissonance cannot be relieved The evil we’re facing just can’t be believed Do not join the madness, do not be their tool Do not let them get away and play you for a fool You know what makes all this just so damned insane? It’s less about who is, than who is not to blame
(CHORUS)
The question ain’t so much why they’re such evil fuckers Question is just how we let them play us all for suckers Let’s stick Cheney with a dose of sodium pentothal That’s the place to start at getting to the bottom of it all Just wake up and cease to be intellectually lazy Seeking truth is easy and it doesn’t make you crazy How you react doesn’t matter – you can even taze me All their lies and subterfuge, none of it will phase me.
(CHORUS)

10. Nope. Please, tell me of any other terror attacks linked to 9/11 |
|
other than THE 9/11.
It is a myth that Islamic terrorists focus on particular memorable dates - that is American conservative projection.
Americans, OTOH, have a history of terror attacks focused on April 19th (commemortive of Lexington/Concord battle) and April 20 (Hitler's B'day).
OTOH, if 9/11 WAS an inside job, yeah, we REALLY need to worry.

Was on 9/11. There is also a religious Islamic holiday that day..I don't recall what it is. But there have been other attacks on 9/11 before the one that brought down the twin towers. Its hard to google it now with all the current stuff on the last 911 event..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_World_Trade_Center_bombingThe Islamic holiday of Eid CAN fall on 9/11, but being based on a lunar calendar that only happens occasionally. That's like saying the the American revolutionaries chose April 19th for the Battle Of Concord because it coincides with Easter. OTOH, 9/11 IS the anniversary of the 1973 overthrow of Allende - by the American CIA and General Pinochet.

19. other....this year may be different.... |
|
....we have to ask ourselves, "On this tenth anniversary of 911, who would substantially benefit from another large-scale attack on US soil?"
....there are many international and domestic political players and groups that would love to harm the US and see Obama lose the 2012 election....

21. 9-11-01 was tragic...but everything that happened after was far more damaging |
|
to the nation as a whole.
Those deaths on September 11, 2001 were horrible...but look how America used those deaths to commit war crimes, erode civil liberties, and every other abuse and crime the Bush administrating engaged in...(and was enabled by Congress)
I was never someone who thought the US safe from attack...I still don't think the US safe from attack....but that doesn't keep me up at night and I don't go around fearful about it either.
Americans (Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld, etc./DOJ/DoD/CIA/members of Congress/Bush supporters and enablers) caused America's greatest damage over the last decade.
Americans did it.

They have control over our lives, present and future, because they can destroy each of us financially with the stroke of an auto-pen and we have no recourse. They and Republicons in public office are the true terrorists. And yes, I do indeed fear them.
