My aunt, the bill collector
My aunt worked for the NC Attorney General. She began when the earth was formed I think. She held many different positions as more programs and bureaus were set up. One of the many areas she was in charge of was collecting payments from people who owed money on their student loans.

My aunt was one of the funniest and kindest people you could meet. She would do her best to help those people in setting up some plan to to pay the loan back that they could afford. However, if you disrespected her or tried to put one over on her :scared: :scared: :scared:

I remember 3 of the cases she dealt with.

One was a woman who had taken out a small loan to go to tech school. The job she was training for would be much better than the one she was in. Every time a payment was due, she was right there with her $15 dollars. She never missed once.

Then there was the time my aunt came across my cousin's name. He was her nephew. They lived in the same area, and I wondered where she buried his body. (Yes this is hyperbole. She had a sense of humor, but she didn't play when it came to some matters.)

The third story was about several UNC grads who were now doctors and dentists. They were 'IMPORTANT.' Apparently because they were IMPORTANT, she had offended them greatly by asking them to pay their loans back. Meanwhile they were living in homes that were eleventy billion square feet, and they drove Beemers or something.

They were so aghast at her nerve, that they immediately called some poobah at UNC. That person was apparently offended because the former students, himself, and the university were IMPORTANT. He told her that those loans should be forgiven because of the magnitude of their IMPORTANCE.

My aunt talked it over with the AG, and then she called them back. She told the poobah that if they didn't begin repaying their loans, she would not follow up on ANY case that involved UNC period. She didn't think that they were IMPORTANT.

They began to pay back there loans.
***********************************

I always smile when I think about this. IMPORTANT people should not be given privileges or deals that are not also offered to others.

Here's to my aunt: :toast:
