Texas - Mexican beauty cream may have mercury - 18 poisoned

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php

The Texas Department of State Health Services is warning that mercury poisoning could be linked to a Mexican beauty cream. About 18 people in South Texas have gotten poisoned after using Crema Aguamary, a cosmetic produced in Mexico but not approved for use in the United States. DSHS tested 16 samples of Crema Aguamary products, and all had elevated levels of mercury, some hundreds of thousands of times higher than permitted in the United States. DSHS says it does not have evidence that the contaminated products are being sold commercially in Texas. It appears that individuals are purchasing the products in Mexico and bringing them across the border. Crema Aguamary products may also be available for purchase online.

1. Beauty creams....BAH!!!
I don't know what it is with women. Well, some of them, anyway...

Lots of times I've seen women asking (online and in RL) what's the best beauty cream...

And despite the fact that people can't tell from my skin how old I am, nobody ever thinks my choice of "beauty cream" is worth much. Mainly because it doesn't cost a lot.

I've been using Noxzema since my 20s. People have often commented on how great my complexion looks. Thirty plus years later it's still better than most women's my age.

Plain old Noxzema, and staying out of the sun.

Very cheap solutions. But some women want all kinds of exotic ingredients, and it seems the more the cream costs, the better it must be.

And younger women think they can fry themselves in the sun and they won't end up looking like a piece of meat left in the oven too long when they're ten years younger than I am. Whatever...fry in the sun. Spend thousands of dollars on "beauty creams" that don't do a damned thing. It's not going to change the damage already done.
