Former cowboy lassos dogs in Wash. state canal

MOXEE, Wash. (AP) -- A farmworker who says he learned how to lasso 30 years ago while working on a cattle ranch in Mexico still knows his ropes.

Jesus Villanueva was working near Moxee, Wash., on Wednesday when he heard a disturbance along the Roza irrigation canal. A woman and her husband were trying to save their two dogs being swept away in the current. The dogs couldn't climb up the steep concrete sides of the canal.

A Yakima sheriff's deputy had a rope but was having no luck. It took Villanueva just one lasso for each dog to bring them ashore.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://bit.ly/qeSqju ) Noya Deats had run nearly three miles along the canal, trying to save her dogs while calling her husband and the sheriff's office for help.

***thank you jesus!:yourock:

6. Not everyone. Just the heroes.
Yes, I am guilty of that. I thought of making a disclaimer...

However, there are many on this site who would assume, it being me, that it's an attempt at satire or humor, and in this case a situation that we've all heard of, and a reiteration of "no good deed goes unpunished." Satire is kind of "fair use."

So I decided it was best to leave the post pure, and explain if necessary. I bet that someone out there, some good citizen, checked on this guy's background. And maybe he's as pure as Selena Gomez, but the dots are there, so I connected them in a way that shows the state of irony we live in.

For the record, I would not deport anybody that is not demonstrably a horrible person. I don't even believe in borders! :)

14. Great story, glad the dogs are OK! Seems like WA might want to consider installing
some escape options - for example, float lines across the canal at intervals. Probably wouldn't help a dog, but a person would have something to grab on to...
