Here's an obscure reference: Right wingers spewing violent rhetoric remind me of Rick James
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 06:59 PM by coti
as he was lampooned by Charlie Murphy on Chappelle's Show.

The classic Rick James sketch from Dave Chappelle and Charlie Murphy (Eddie Murphy's brother) came to mind when the subject of "dueling" was raised by the right wing in this spat over the tone of our country's politics.

So I found a clip of the second half of the sketch on YouTube, and was surprised as I was watching it at how laughably right-wingers today fit into Murphy's characterizattion of Rick James.

The total absence of social graces- their antagonizing and totally inappropriate, incorrigible behavior. Their lack of self-awareness and discipline, not knowing when they've already gone way too far. Their inability to control their emotions. Their bad memories. Their incoherence and self-contradictions.

Among other things.

Fair warning: This clip may not be everybody's cup of tea. The clip makes use of the "N" word and doesn't portray women well, either.

But I guess that just makes Rick's behavior that much more right-wing, doesn't it?

For those of you willing to put up with that, watch and imagine Rick as a right-winger. It's just a perfect fit. It's hilarious.

3. Foolishness! Like I'd grind my boots into their couch, like that's something a person would do
Yeah, I ground my boots into their couch.

I gotta tell ya, the first time I saw that clip, I almost wet myself laughing so hard. When they re-wound the tape to replay James' admission that he had indeed ground his boots into Murphy's couch, I fell off my chair.

5. One of the greatest lines in the history of comedy, inadvertent as it was.
"...like that's something to do" is a phrase routinely heard around my house.
