Rick Perry had a 2.22 GPA in college. |
|
Just wanted to point that out, in case some people on here weren't aware. Rick Perry had a 2.22 GPA in college. I'm sorry if this has been discussed here previously -- I just joined today.
He could not get into veterinary school with those grades (no shame in that, it isn't easy), so then he enters the Air Force as a pilot. Republicans are trying to market him as Flight Suit Guy #2, except this time the guy actually has military experience. That is kind of scary. Independents and conservative Democrats might contemplate voting for him should he win the Republican nomination. These voters need to be made aware that Perry might be even DUMBER than Bush, and we all remember how terrible a president he was. Perry IS a better public speaker than Bush was, but I believe that he is probably dumber.
His book could have been ghost-written for all we know. Maybe he paid some Republican genius to write it. I don't believe the guy is capable of writing an entire book by himself if his college GPA is barely above the cutoff for getting kicked out of school (2.0)

Welcome to DU, glad you joined up!
Shouldn't we DEMAND the BEST qualified be POTUS! I mean, it is kinda important so when the 'big words' come out - they are understood and not just glossed over like Governor Goodhair does!

5. Thanks, yes we should. |

I think Americans voted for Bush because they bought the media's portrayal of Gore and Kerry as elitists, and they didn't mind voting for someone stupid. I thought the hitjobs they did on Gore and Kerry were completely ridiculous, but Kerry did kind of play into their stereotypes a bit. The media couldn't do that with Obama though because he was so different from McCain. I hope that Americans do not make that same mistake again, and let me stay that I still think Obama can beat Perry. If the unemployment rate stays where it is, however, it's going to be a very, very tight race. The race could even be as close as 2000 or 2004, where one state makes the difference.

11. Most of us, when applying for a job/position, are subjected to test(s) |
|
in order to see if we are a right fit for said position. I think prior to anyone filling out their paperwork for public office, should be required to take tests on their knowledge of the constitution, laws of congress, rules of the House and Senate, etc. I doubt there would be many bagger candidates.

4. I've got to say that I have much a lower opinion of fighter pilots these days. |
|
It was a dream of mine as a kid. I don't have the eyes and I'm at the height limit. I use to think that I didn't have the smarts too, but given that both Bush and Perry have been fighter pilots it makes me think they are ain't the hot shots they act like they are. Computers I think, will probably be smarter soon if they aren't already.

10. Yes, and Bush only got a fighter spot because of who his daddy was |
|
Perry had no such connections, and they realized he was a moron like Bush, so they wouldn't give him a fighter slot. Not implying that C-130 pilots are dumb by any means, but this was still the Vietnam era, and people were not rushing to sign up with the Air Force or Navy to fly planes.

Go to any flight school at any little airport and you'll find 20-year-old flight instructors with far more time than that.

36. You need 250 hours just to get the very basic commercial pilot certificate. |
|
That's without an instrument rating, which requires additional training. To act as pilot in command (captain) of an aircraft in airline operations, you have to have an airline transport pilot certificate, which requires a minimum of 1,500 hours. Realistically, most pilots at the major airlines are hired with as many as 4,000 hours.

I know she's constantly saving her money, trying to pay for more flight time. It's taken her longer to complete, compared to some of the other students, because she doesn't have a family that can pay for the hours needed.

one of Bush where he was wearing medals he never earned, and for the same reason.
MY DAD earned every last medal on HIS chest. And he earned the right to pose for his glam shots with the F-4 and other jets BECAUSE HE FLEW THEM. He may have been a navigator and not a pilot solely because he wore eyeglasses, but he was top notch, an excellent EWO and Master Navigator, and in a pinch could pilot one of those jets just as well as the guy in the front seat.
Bush and Perry are both lying phonies.

I just want to make that clear. Fighter jets manufactured in the past 20 years are much more computerized and sophisticated. Perry didn't fly jets however, he flew C-130's.

|
I've heard vet school can be harder to get into than medical school. I know someone who was on the waiting list for the U. of Minn. vet school for four years before she got in. She did graduate and eventually became a cat specialist (later on she went into human nursing; I think she got tired of being bitten and peed on).
I can't imagine a knucklehead like Perry getting into a program like that. Maybe he could have gotten a job cleaning cages at the zoo.

42. As a veterinarian I guarantee you it is far harder to get into than medical school. |
|
I know more than a couple of physicians who have confessed to me that they really wanted to be a vet but couldn't get into vet school. I know of ZERO vets who actually wanted to be physicians and had to settle for second best, lol. Though one of my classmates did go directly on to a graduate degree in comparative anatomy, then medical school, then eventually became a pediatric neurosurgeon.
I have a feline-exclusive practice. The way around the bites and flying pee is liberal use of happy drugs/sedation/anesthesia of large numbers of my patients (very safe, BTW). Plus, with no dogs here they start out less scared to begin with. I love my work.

because he's become better at reading cat and dog body language. Also, he can get them to cooperate for procedures they fight with me over (tooth brushing, for example); when I asked him why that is, he said, "They aren't afraid of you." Interesting.
