I was speaking to a friend of mine who lives in the U.S - she has tumours she thinks are benign and cannot get health care, even though she works for a city government.
She posted this on her Facebook wall. A kind of weird nursery rhyme political talking point:
I do not like this Uncle Sam, I do not like his health care scam. I do not like these dirty crooks, or how they lie and cook the books. I do not like when Congress steals, I do not like their secret deals. I do not like this speaker, Nan , I do not like this ‘YES WE CAN’. I do not like this spending spree, I’m smart, I know that nothing’s free, I do not like your smug replies, when I complain about your lies. I do not like this kind of hope. I do not like it. nope, nope, nope!
And her rationale was that because the unemployed are getting free health care, it is driving HER premiums up so high that she cannot get health care to be seen for her illnesses.
I - really don't know what to say to her. :(

It's some kind of right-wing nursery rhyme against Obama's health care.

I don't know how the health care bill in the States works.
If what she says is true - that it's driving premiums up so high she cannot get health care, making her angry against it - then it's bad.
But if it's not true...I dunno.

14. What is driving her premiums up |
|
is ER care. People who have no choice go to the ER for all kinds of health care and it has to be picked up somehow.
Of course it would not be an issue if we had something like oh Health Canada.
But in a nutshell that is the problem.
As to her particular problem... the insurance companies have been raising rates well beyond inflation. Several state governments, see California for example, took them to court to prevent this. We are talking of 60-70% rate hikes here... and it has zero to do with Obama or the Health Caer bill. In Cali it was taken on by the INSURANCE COMMISSIONER.
There a little more bone to the complexity.
Problem is that most people in this country are blaming the state for not being able t control the private sector, which was deregulated by the usual suspects.

I mean, I know that sometimes she spews right-wing talking points like they're going out of style - but she's a dear friend and I don't like seeing her so upset.

One of the primary freak-outs about being unemployed (other than paying your bills and, well, surviving) is losing health care insurance. Again, she's WRONG!!

of Canadian style health care in the US - but there'd be too much backlash.
It's worked here but that's cause we've had it for decades.

new, it worked because it was good. Citing the age of the program as the reason it works is illogical, to say the least.

The effect of Tax Cuts is like "Oh, we are just not going to make our full monthly payments on our credit cards."
Then add to that, "We are going to pretend that we are NOT charging 8 years worth of war."

25. "Unemployed gettig free health care"???? |
|
My unemployment insurance just ran out last month and I never got "free health care" while I was on it. Yes, I did have some help with my Cobra payment for a while but I still had all the deductables, co-pays, etc that all other insured people get. I've never gotten free healthcare. If she's referring to uninsured folks having getting care in the emergency room, that's "emergency treatment" and not by any stretch of the imagination comprehensive "free healthcare". It doesn't cover any preventative treatment, for example. If she's talking about Medicaid , you have to go through an extensive application process and actually be destitute in order to be approved. It's because we decided as a nation that we wanted to protect vulnerable individuals from suffering from treatable diseases and the society at large from things like contagious diseases, which the Medicaid folks can receive vaccines for. That protects all of us. It's still not comprehensive health care.

god is punishing us because some don't want to help others. You see republicans and baggers do not think health insurance is a right. We are in deep trouble. We have a good president but he isn't a fighter. I don't know when he is going to show a spine. The working poor are in trouble. I see no one help them.

The unemployed do not get any health care here if they can not pay for it. She's an insane liar, basically. Please tell her so. Also, the Speaker of the House is Republican John Boehner. Her 'work' needs an update.
