CraigsList Is Going More Corporate........

...My wife and I are looking to downsize to cut cost a bit so we are looking at new rental properties closer to her new job.We have found our last two places on C,so tonight I go on CL to browse and all's I can find are apartments owned by big corporate multi-housing company's,no private owners out of 500 listing which is who we have been able to rent from the past 2 times.

It's like corporations are encroaching on every bit of business, did they chase out the small time landlords??.....SAD and scary

1. Every good new idea eventually gets corrputed by the lure of money

:(

Have you tried word of mouth?
When we rented, we always found a place by asking friends who their landlord was, or if they knew anyone who had a place to rent. Many times people are afraid to advertize for fear of being sued (if they reject a renter)

3. He Started Charging For Real Estate Listings In NYC About Six Years Ago
I was working as a real estate rental agent in Manhattan about six years ago and Craigslist real estate listings were great for us, because they were free. However, there quickly became thousands of listings per hour, so any individual listing just sank immediately.

Then he started charging (shortly after I stopped working as a rental agent), and it immediately changed things to the way they are now.

He's made a mint as he's phased in other metro areas. I'm not sure of the details, but that's the general idea.
