Anyone who has a problem with Chaz Bono needs to get a fucking life |
|
It absolutely floors me that so many people are preoccupied with what's under someone's pants.

I have no clue, is he/she related to Bono? Screw him if he did, bono's investments speak more then any silver tongue could.

7. The DWTS 'franchise' is many things, but not stupid. |
|
They went for the GOP demographic with the hapless and untalented Bristol Palin, they went for the older, not-dead-yet middle aged demo with the 60 year old Kirstie Alley, the "I'm older still but not dead yet" population with Cloris Leachman, and now they're going for an entirely different slice of the demographic pie with Chaz.
It's very light fare, the show, but it's amusing, has a bit of a team/cheerleading quality, and the little set pieces give the "stars" an opportunity to tout themselves or their causes or perspectives.
This thing will be a win-win for Chaz. He knows what he's dealing with; he'll be nicely compensated, and if he can hang in there (that will be up to the audience--and you can't vote "against" anyone, you can only vote "for" them) he will have a "teachable moment" opportunity every week he's on teh show. He has an engaging personality, a very open and honest way of speaking, and I think he'll win over more than a few people.
People hate and fear the unfamiliar. He'll serve as an ambassador. It'll all be a positive at the end of the day.

9. I've never watched the show, except what they show on 'The Soup' |
|
I do find it somewhat amusing the controversies that surround the show. In the case of Chaz, however, it's sad to see the amount of vitriol and hate spewing from the GOP types.

I am overruled by family on matters of television, they are DWTS fanatics, so I gave in years ago. Now I kind of enjoy it. It's light fare, like I said, but you'll probably be amused by at least a few of the contestants.
We even got on the access list once, flew out to LA, and saw the "results" show live--had a blast.

and never have done so, I could care less who or who is not featured on it. These scripted "reality" shows leave me completely bored, I would rather watch a sporting event of any type and I completely despise sports.

12. This isn't about the show - it's about the hatred and vitriol directed towards the GLBT community |
|
I don't watch the show either, but this situation still saddens me that so many people harbor such hatred for someone simply because of their gender identity.

13. Okay, then who is Chaz Bono? |
|
I don't believe anyone should be disrespected for who they are (race, color, creed, etc...) but who is this person and why is this an issue?

14. Chaz Bono is a transgender advocate |
|
Born to Sonny and Cher, came out of the closet in '95, underwent female-to-male gender transition a few years ago. Since then, Bono has become an advocate for transgender rights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaz_Bono

Chaz is very eloquent and explains (lives) the difference between sex and sexuality beautifully.
Good speed to you, Chaz.

19. OTOH you know the fundies will have a voting bomb ready to go the first night. |
|
The same mobilization of votes to "elevate" Bristol Palin to the finals will be used against Chaz == unless we all vote too.

"It absolutely floors me that so many people are preoccupied with what's under someone's pants. "
However, in fairness, Chaz has sort of opened the topic up by his willingness to answer questions about what is in his pants.

21. The little fundie fuss boycott will just backfire. |
|
I remember back in 1987/1988 when the fundies were all mad at the then-new Fox Network because they thought Married With Children was too risque -- that backfired, the show lasted many more seasons.
The publicity about Chaz Bono will just increase ratings. How long he lasts on the show will be a function of how well he dances, not his gender. If he's good, he stay on until the point that only those better remain.

For So-Cal DUers it's Roger Lodge the sports guy, and after hearing him blast Chaz on his show, I will no longer listen, nor will I support the business he does commercials for. :grr:
