We should have worked harder and been more selective. We handed him a defective product. Poor guy!!! He would have done so many more great things with tax cuts and the wars and healthcare and Gitmo -- if only we hadn't totally effed it all up. Shame on us!

Some things should be a given for a (D) president. It's the nitty-gritty ones where you have to push your way through and stick your neck out to fight for the people who are under attack that are worthy of bonus kudos. That's how I look at it anyway.

8. I like Sanders very much |
|
but I don't think Sanders could be elected President in my lifetime.
I grew up in Alabama and remember when George Wallace claimed he lost the governor's race to John Patterson because Patterson "out-segged" him. I remember crowds cheering Wallace in the next election when Wallace said, "Segregation Yesterday. Segregaton Today. Segregation Forever." I also heard a huge crowd at a university cheer when Wallace said, "If one of those pointy head liberals lies down in front of my car, I'll run over him."
It was because of Wallace that I voted for Humprhey over Nixon, even though I hated the Vietnam War and the way the Chicago police behaved at the Convention. I think Humphrey would have ended Vietnam just as soon as Nixon did. Certainly Humphrey would not have hired Dick Cheney or Roger Ailes the way Nixon did.
I have a more realistic view of consequences of voting than some people do.

His achievements have and will fall short of his intentions. It's all a matter of whether you trust that he's doing what he thinks is best for most Americans, and whether you believe there's someone out there who has a realistic shot at doing better than what he's done so far.

|
Edited on Sat Sep-03-11 12:58 PM by Armstead
I Think Michelle Bachmann thinks she is doing what's best for America, as does Mitt, Perry, etc.
That isn't really the point. Michelle is free to believe that it is best for America to be a Theocratic Corporate State. But that's certainly not what I believe, which is why I will never even consider giving her any form of support.
I will support Obama in the election. But I (and many others) would be a lot happier about it if I (we) beleved that what he gelieves is best for Americacwere closer to what I (we) believe.

I do want to have some level of trust in the President, that he has our best interests at heart even when I don't know or understand all of the forces shaping his decisions. I do size up his personality, look at his past, his family life. I didn't trust Bush or President Cheney--I do not feel they had average Americans' best interests at heart. I trusted, for the most part, Bill Clinton. I do trust Obama.

Edited on Sat Sep-03-11 01:31 PM by Armstead
I certainly wouldn't want to see someone like me in the WH. That would be a big time disaster.
And I agree that ultinately we elect someone we can trust.
However, most people form their political values andl views based on what they believe is best forcthe country. And therefore it is a natural extension of thatv to want people in office who share those beliefs and will work to advance that agenda.

14. I thought this Kos poster got it absolutely right in response: |
|
" I don't think the Obama fans get it. (0+ / 0-)
You've got a product, say you're a Ford, and your competition is Chevy. Customers tell you that they're not sure about buying a Ford because they want some features that it doesn't have. Do you tell your customers, "You're ignorant. If you don't buy this Ford, you'll end up with a Chevy and you know how Chevys suck!" In order to sell your candidate, you have to give people what they want. What people want is someone who fights for what they believe in and who is on their side. Sorry but a wonkish list of "accomplishments" doesn't cut it. Obama needs to go out there to fight for a major job program to win the election. And he can't keep disregarding the desires of the major interest groups (environmentalists, retirees, etc.) and expect to get their votes by scolding them."

Especially considering the fact that our legislative system is a bicameral system that doesn't follow established democratic rules and where each conservative rural voter holds a 20:1 advantage over each urban liberal voter (The 20 least populated states have 40 Senators but less population than the State of California which, obviously has 2 Senators).

Yes President Obama is light years beyond any of those Republican chuckleheads.
Yes President Obama has done some good things in office.
Yes he is worth supporting in the campaign against the GOP for those reasons alone.
I GET IT! WE GET IT!
Now, can you at least acknowledge that many of us are also frustrated and angry at him for reasons that we believe are legitimate -- and they are NOT rooted in "ignorance" as you so blithely call it?
In fact can you even remotely open yourself to the possibilty that our objections might actually be based on knowledge, and may even be rooted concern about the Bigger Picture?

For example the Justice department is still trying to get a court ruling that DADT is unconstitutional set aside, and DOMA is still being used to expel same-sex married people in immigration cases. That's just from the LGBT stuff, but it's the same story through the whole list.

Is not even progressive. Money for Race to the Top? No thanks. Obama's forced pay to insurers? No thanks. A transgender appointee? It's an insult to my transgender partner and I to say that helps us on any way. Especially when he's going to The Family's prayer meet ups and tSlkkng about a "state's rights" approach to LGBT issues. Helping small businesses? Most Republicans want to help small businesses. That has nothing to do with labor.
And don't insult us by pretending Obama has brought reform to wall st.
I'm glad young people can't be thrown off coverage for pre-existing conditions. There are a few nice bones in there floating around in that sewer of lies.

focusing on "charter schools" as private schools (some are, many are not) and complaining that Teachers are getting all the "blame", but that's simply NOT TRUE.
RTTT recognizes that capable teachers are the most important component. But you constantly approach the issue as a victim rather than an important component. I'm glad you weren't my teacher!
