The answer to this simple question will probably determine who the voters elect President in 2012

"Are you doing better than you were four years ago?"

All other issues will be secondary in the minds of most voters.

"It's the economy stupid".

And people won't need PHD to figure out how the economy is doing.

Is it in the "shitcan" or is a strong recovery from the depression clearly taking hold 14 months from now?

2. People who think the economy is bad are victims of propaganda.
People who say that the economy is bad are agents of the Koch Brothers.

To them I say, "Get thee behind me, Satan! Behind me!"

15. I'm almost
getting tired of posting things like this.
I believe the maladjustment of snark meters and other such detection equipment such as BS gauges stems from the operation of Poe's Law.
Poe's Law short version:Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing.
Poe's Law slightly expanded version:Similar to Murphy's Law, Poe's Law concerns internet debates, particularly regarding religion or politics.

"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."

In other words, No matter how bizarre, outrageous, or just plain idiotic a parody of a Fundamentalist may seem, there will always be someone who cannot tell that it is a parody, having seen similar REAL ideas from real religious/political Fundamentalists.
The wingnutters have so far removed any conversations from reality that any attempt at humor, which to be good, must be based in reality that they've warped even the definition of humor.

The middle class is getting flushed down the toilet.

The only people that I can think of who think the economy is good are the people who are Big Time Financial Players, and their tools, i.e. those in the media and also the Political Class.

Oh and maybe anyone inheriting a bundle or winning the lottery.

9. wtf? You're kidding. Last time I looked nearly 16% unemployment
and nothing being spent by anyone BUT the Cock brothers was an indication of a bad economy. What is yours if not this?

14. That this wasn't automatically recognized as sarcasm is kind of
a sad statement. Not about the people that didn't recognize it as sarcasm, but on the people that say it seriously and regularly to the point that it doesn't look like sarcasm anymore.

11. I disagree. When voters are doing well, they vote for the republican.
If the administration can demonstrate a marked increase in job creation and something is done about these gas prices then I think he's got it.

That usually doesn't happen.

13. When people feel like they're doing well and their needs are being met they tend to overlook
the fact that it took a democratic administration to get them to that point.
Voters have short memories. I'll prove that in the next 10 years when we are talking about president jeb bush.

17. Maybe we need a different question
I ask, "Will we be better off in four years in the future if the Republicans are allowed to dismantle the safety net of this country?"

18. It's not just the Republicans who are talking about cutting
the social safety in this country. And people on SS have already had their benefits cut over the past two years. An absolutely unforgivable step taken by a Democratic administration.

Ignoring the role of Democrats in what is being proposed for these programs won't change the fact that people know their SS checks are smaller, when the right thing to do would have been to increase benefits, putting more money into the economy, and the money wouldn't even have come from the Government, but from the people's own fund.
