Just drove through Joplin, MO
It's just incredible. Three months later and the damage is horrific. It's hard to believe there weren't more deaths.

2. What got knocked down in 30 seconds or less
is going to take years to rebuild, it always does.

I just hope there's enough temporary housing for people who lost it all.

5. My husband and I drove through a few weeks back.
Horrific is right...and even creepier on that day, because the sky was black and roiling. We got walloped on the drive out of town.

8. I visited Greensburg Kansas one year after it was struck dead-center by an F5 tornado.
Incredible.

Like a post-nuclear scene but most of the debris removed and some new buildings in place, including the state-of-the-art gallery and new school gymnasium.

A high school girl pointed out to me the hole that used to be the basement to the house where her grandma lived, and died, in the tornado.

Behind the new gym are several storm bunkers, above ground, like shipping containers, in case there's another strike.

This is Greensburg:

Looking better now:

:P

9. Greensburg had the most wonderful Dem state rep
One of the few Democrats in that part of Kansas. He went on to be state treasurer and was beat by a tea partier last election.
