The last of the red hot speeches.
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 12:20 PM by Safetykitten
I have a pretty good idea of what President Obama will talk about. Sadly it won't be what I or other Democrats like me want to hear. This speech really is his last chance, and it will have to be "Rocky, look what I pulled out of my hat" kind of speech. I am not confident in any way that this will happen.

Being around for another moment defining speech, the Carter whine-fest before the republican takeover, there are similarities. But this this time, Obama has the massive support of people that want him to say the right things. They are begging him to say the right things. The same people that wanted Single-Payer, Wall Street reform, War ending and taxing the rich. These all have and still poll very high.

But the offering will be the same stale old retread ideas, and launching points for new corporate openings to collapse the economy further. His failure will cement his presidency in with the Carter Presidency; lost opportunities and spectacular miscalculations of the mood of the country.

I have always maintained that he would be a one-term President. I would like to be proven wrong.

9. Obama's approval is 40% or so among all Americans
Thus DU is closer to the real world than is DU, by Mr. Dithers' measure.

10. Sure, if DU were 40% populated with Republicans, like the real world...
But Republicans don't get to post here.

You're not suggesting that the vast majority of DU'ers who disapprove of the job Obama is doing are Republicans, are you?

12. The speech will be fine and people will like it.
They like his speeches. They like admiring his strong voice and his serious, intelligent demeanor. He's gonna say a lot of what people want to hear about his ideas and wishes and take some swipes at Congress. He will sound like a reasonable adult. "Now that's the guy I voted for," people will say.

We'll compare notes afterward, but I'm not too worried about the speech.
