Glock Sales Increase After Arizona Shooting
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 09:17 PM by usregimechange
Yet another unsettling backlash of the Arizona shooting: glock pistols, just like the one used to attack kill six people last Saturday, are now flying off the shelves. Michael Riley at Bloomberg reports that one-day handgun sales have risen 65 percent in Ohio,16 percent in California, 38 percent in Illinois, 33 percent in New York and 60 percent in Arizona from last year. Since Saturday the attendance list for a concealed weapons class at the Arizona Shooter’s World in Phoenix has already doubled.

4. When those Presa Canarios killed that lady and it made national news there was a big run on them

Our whole history is tied up with violence and sometimes the closer a think is to that violence the more people want it.

After the Dirty Harry films the Smith and Wesson Model 29 made a huge jump in price.

In fact I'm amazed that gun manufactureres don't bargain with movies for product placement.

2. What do rural militia's have to do with gun ownership?
gun ownership is non-partisan. There are many democrats that own guns, including myself.

9. Why does the cosmetics (looks) of a weapon matter?
Of course being an informed voter you know that the assault weapons ban, defined assault weapons based on how they look.

you are a radical right flame that has been fanned, that is a problem.

14. Well the term "assault weapon" refers to weapons classified under the AWB.
Also I don't think you can kill 50 people in 30 seconds with any civilian grade weapons no matter how scary they look.

17. So the term assault weapon was first used when the ASB was being written?
And I was making a point about the dangerousness of some weapons, nukes for example, are you on board with that?

24. Sadly Yes. The choice of words was intentional also.
Assault Rifle = fully automatic military grade weapon.
Assault Weapon = made up term for scary looking guns.

100% intentional to mislead and confuse the public. Sadly it works still today. Many people believe assault weapons are military weapons, or super powerful, or fully automatic, or if they don't know they just assume it must be really bad.

25. Stop digging. And stop playing silly semantic games with terms...
...that have accepted definitions. A Glock is not an "Assault Weapon" under the accepted definition of that term.

The Glock 9mm is a semi-automatic pistol. That means it fires one shot per trigger pull.

There are no dangerous weapons. There are only dangerous ideas.

One of the most dangerous is that weapons only belong in the right hands.

Which my friend is a long way different to: Weapons do not belong in the wrong hands.

Unless you think 40% of the country is RWer living on compounds your bigoted stereotype is bogus.

8. Personally, I'm thrilled at the concealed weapons class list doubling.
More folks that have guns will be better trained and educated on their ownership and use. I hate the reason why, but the result can be very positive.

11. I agree...
Buy American!

Glock is more about mystique, Hollywood image and gangsta fashion.

Even though I love my Glock... it doesn't carry nearly the same class or history as my Colt 1911, or the same workmanship as my S&W M&P 40.

26. The Glock is one of top selling civilian pistol in the United States and has been for two decades.
Edited on Thu Jan-13-11 04:54 PM by benEzra
When politicians and lobbyists start talking seriously about banning them, "get one while you can" psychology comes into play.

A Glock 17 has been on my "want to buy someday" list for years. If I thought a ban on new production was likely (as opposed to merely remotely possible), I'd go out and buy one myself. I don't see it happening, though.

(And FWIW, the reason people took your OP as bashing gun owners is that the Glock has pretty much defined the defensive handgun for two decades. Everyone and their brother/mother/sister owns one, so suggesting that Glock buyers are nutjobs comes across as a slam on a broad cross section of gun owners, even if you didn't intend it that way.
