1. I've seen 4 different Amphicars..
...over the years, in four different states. They were rust magnets, and there never were more than 4000 of them built in the first place.

I might have used up most of my lifetime supply of luck right there.

6. Any body could buy one of these amphipios cars
I see that it has been registered as a Texas boat- TX-1919-AZ. Here's another pick in color of the same model car.

7. Sometimes LBJ could really be an asshole . . .
From http://www.nps.gov/lyjo/planyourvisit/presidentialvehicles.htm

The President, with Vicky McCammon in the seat alongside him and me in the back, was now driving around in a small blue car with the top down. We reached a steep incline at the edge of the lake and the car started rolling rapidly toward the water. The President shouted, "The brakes don’t work! The brakes won’t hold! We’re going in! We’re going under!" The car splashed into the water. I started to get out. Just then the car leveled and I realized we were in a Amphicar. The President laughed. As we putted along the lake then (and throughout the evening), he teased me. "Vicky, did you see what Joe did? He didn’t give a damn about his President. He just wanted to save his own skin and get out of the car." Then he’d roar.

8. How could you not know you were in an Amphicar?
It's only the weirdest looking car ever. Maybe the twin propellers didn't tip him off?

11. That sounds like something my dad would have done to us.
Of course LBJ could be an asshole, but I heard his daughter on NPR a while back and she spoke very highly of her father, but didn't say he was perfect or not occasionally an asshole. All of us can. The man did a shit ton of good too.

12. If you take the tour at LBJ ranch..
you can see the car and the steep incline he would roll down. According to my tour guide, he used this tactic to get the upper hand with foreign diplomats, too.
