I have a deep and abiding fondness and respect for politicians.
Vermont politicians, that is. Mostly the dems and progs, but even quite a few republicans. These are what politicians can be and should be.

I know quite a few of the folks in the State House. Most Vermonters do. And by and large, these are the kind of people you want in a state house. Progressive, thoughtful, accessible and not owned by corporate America.

Our Guv led the fight for marriage equality while in the state senate and the fight to shut down Yankee.

Bernie Sanders isn't a fluke. Neither is Peter Welch, and while I think Pat Leahy's time is past, he was an effective fighter for years. When Bernie and Peter and Pat retire, odds are excellent that those who replace them will be people who will fight for the people they represent

I wish I knew what it was about Vermont civic life that produces such engagement and so many really good people in office. I'd like to export it to other places.
