Anyone in the area who can help, please call Beth at 512-467-4893 or Rachel at 512-581-2940. There at least 43 horses in immediate need at their rescue, surely there will be more. **Please cross post!!**

18. It all happened too fast
From the article:

Longtime Texas Sheriff Maxey Cerliano says it's the fastest-moving fire he's ever seen.

Six homes were toppled within minutes, including a trailer where a woman and her 18-month-old daughter were killed because they couldn't escape in time.

7. Thanks, I live in a nearby community with lots of horse folks.
Sunset Valley allows residents in the older part of town to keep horses. Bunches of folks would help out I'm sure. I'm posting to my lists. If you have specific friends in Bastrop who need help, PM me.

They said we needed homes with certain types of fences, but at least one of them is on it. I hear some folks are already helping evacuate some horses from the Dripping Springs fire. Thanks for posting!

24. I agree.
It is nice to see people helping one another. Community, very cool.

I am about 15 miles east of this fire. I can smell the smoke and see it from my backyard! The winds are moving it southward... it's amazing. Looks like a volcanic ash plume or something. I cringe to think of the animals and people in it's path. :(

We lost power last night for a while, not sure if it was related, but it was weird anyway.

32. We can take up to 8 if someone can get them here
We don't have a trailer anymore. Beth's number is busy and Rachel's mailbox is full. We have two and a half acres, but only one stall, but there is room to graze, water and one stall.

There is a horse camp close by that could probably take some too.

I'll keep trying the numbers.

Even though horses in OP are safe, there is good info in this thread.

Hoping for mucho rain and more firefighters for TExas.

I'm sitting here in the dark in TN as Lee has caused a power failure.

DU and the laptop - along with some kerosene lamps - are keeping me in lights but the wind is going a little nuts.

But what I see going on in TX is so scary I am overwhelmed for y'all; stay safe all of our TX DUers

I'm retired, but if they need volunteers, I can jump in my RV and head south. We have a few fires close to home here (north Texas), but they are mostly contained. I'm not a firefighter, but I can do grunt work, carry water, anything that's needed. I need a number to contact. If anyone has a volunteer number, PM me. I can't just sit here and watch Texas burn.

57. Thank you
to all the folks out there helping animals. We live west of Austin and yesterday afternoon we watched a large scary fire move from N to S very quickly, bypassing our neighborhood just to the west of us. We watched as periodically the smoke would become thick and black, meaning at that moment one more family was losing all their possessions and becoming homeless. If the strong dry winds had been from the NW rather than the N, our neighborhood would have been in its path. We have a friend with a relative who was away from her home when a fire started in her neighborhood. Her dog was in the house and she was blocked from getting back to her house until the following day when she found out her house was burned to the ground. That's yet one more heartbreaking story out of hundreds.

59. No
The one that burned the house with the dog inside was the Steiner Ranch fire. The various fires we were watching the past 2 days were mainly from what they are calling the Spicewood or Pedernales fire. From the hillside neighborhood where we live, halfway between Bee Cave and Spicewood, we could count about 6-8 separate fires at any one time yesterday. That's just the ones we could see looking NW between Hwy 71 and the upper end of (what's left of) Lake Travis.
