Unions have been the militants in the Democratic party since I was a kid
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 05:47 PM by NNN0LHI
That is why the GOP and their complicit media has wasted no time attacking them today. Unions scare them. Its the only thing that does scare them. Especially the baggers. Think they are looking forward to their next rally and maybe having a few thousand union members showing up there intimidating them? They are terrified, panicked and becoming hysterical just thinking about that. That is why we have had post after post here for weeks trying to drive a wedge between union members and Democrats.

Not sure a lot of people understand this.

1. Wait until they see the size of the union and non-union crowd that
showed up to hear POTUS speak. They should be scared..

4. Unions will still support Democrats including Obama...
What I hear them saying is from now on their energy & $$ will be spent getting more liberal/progressive Dems elected. They will start working for and spending directly on individual candidates of their choice. I think that is a very good idea!

8. Absolutely!!
It doesn't do any good to elect a President when Representatives and Senators aren't willing to support legislation that needs to be passed. If the data that is passed between Democrats in Congress and those that work for the President indicates that legislation will be difficult to pass then the President has to make a choice on whether to push for it or not. If there are too many on the wrong side it makes it more difficult. But if there are fewer Blue Dogs in a Democratic controlled Congress then it makes the President's job easier.

I have doubts on what is happening but I am not privy to what Obama or Democratic leaders are attempting to do but do realize that it is not easy when dealing with 535 members. Some of which are total jerks.

11. Might want to be a little careful there with that tough talk on a public board
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 09:01 PM by NNN0LHI
A huge majority(86%) of black voters approve of President Obama.

He is their president just like he is mine. And they make up a big chunk of our Democratic voting base here in Illinois. Enough to make a difference in a lot if not most of our elections. Think they will stand idly by and watch as President Obama gets thrown under the bus by Democratic voters and then go out and vote for other Democratic candidates who we like?

Be nice if they would, but I wouldn't count on it. You might end up with that bagger in your district for a lot longer than planned if you don't play your cards right here. And we might have a bagger governor in a few years here too. We came close to having a Walker clone elected here last election, didn't we? How well do you think we will do with that same match up in 2014 if the black voters are pissed off and stay home?

Might end up cutting your own throat?

12. Stop thinking of him as the 'black president'
He's the president. He shouldn't get any more or less support based solely on his race. I AM BLACK (half black, like Obama) and I still judge Obama and eeeeeeeverybody else by the content of their character, period. What matters more?

I know you don't mean anything bad by what you posted, and there is certainly an argument to be made for what you said. But it is just not right to tell people 'Don't speak your mind because he's black and that will make black people mad.' Black folks know good from bad, too.

No one should be silenced. Respectful, yes. Silenced, no way.

13. I live in Illinois with madrchsod and don't want my throat cut either
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 09:53 PM by NNN0LHI
Knowing the voter makeup here in Illinois I know what will happen if Democrats needlessly alienate the black vote. The result will be we will never have another Democrat elected for anything in this state again. That is how important that voting block is in Illinois.

I am looking at this from a self preservation standpoint. I could never live in a red state.

As I said, we dodged the bullet of having a Walker clone for governor by less than 20,000 votes last election. We don't have much a margin for error here.

And I did not mention the Presidents skin color. You did. And I do think the same thing could happen with another president such as President Clinton who also had super high approval ratings among black voters.

10. extra bonus 'points' for the 'they scare them'
i often tell people that complain about corporations that if they want to scare
corporations,

put on a id-tag with 'united we stand' or some other slogan but make sure ALL people in the company does
the same thing at the same time
preferably in all locations, heck preferably all workers

may 1st in europe parades is all about 'intimidation'
it may not be TOLD like that, it may not look like it, but at the base of history what is actually happening is

it's about workers demonstrating their willingness to sacrifice a day they had enough power to force their employers to give them off to demonstrate 'we can do this again, take heed, treat us well, look out'
