I have been very down on Obama lately, until tonight
I have been very angry with Obama for his policies over the last 6 months.
The tax breaks for the rich still have me furious.

But watching this speech tonight -- it is clear that he is the best American President in my lifetime.

THIS is the Obama I voted for.

1. we won't agree with everything he does.....
that's for sure. But we can't forget how good he can be, and that he is a great leader for this time.

3. We won't agree with him on a lot of things, but it doesn't take away how great he is...
He's a brilliant orator and writer.

7. His heart is always in the right place. He IS a change from the
same old, same old. He is dignified. He repects all Americans and serves all Americans. I know that's not a popular attribute on DU, but that is what he promised to do. And that's exactly what he is doing. :patriot:

8. Me too. I'm not giving him a pass for his missteps, but this reminded me of why I voted for him
I didn't like the cheering, but the President's words were exactly what we needed tonight.

10. Yes well, this is what he does best.
He's a tremendous orator. However, giving great speeches does not translate into being a great President. By all accounts Reagan was good at this sort of thing while being one of the worst Presidents of all time. I'm not saying Obama is Reagan, I'm saying I wish his policies and overall job performance were as great as the speeches he gives. They are not. He's been pretty good but not great. Not yet anyway.

12. I feel the same way, except I didn't watch all the speech
After hearing about it at work today, I realize I should have. Glad the internet makes it possible for me to do so.

14. I agree with the "owned," not sure about the "con man"
He may have thought he could fight them after the fact, although the immediate appointment of Geithner and Summers makes me doubt.
