Disaster help needed in Ulster County, NY |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-06-11 01:21 AM by The Traveler
Historic NY casts doubt on the accuracy of the information below. Taking this with a grain of salt ...
Received this on Facebook ... through a fairly reliable source who is a fellow liberal ...
"We desperately need National media coverage. To anyone who knows such a person, please have them call me at **phone number redacted**. I can arrange for accommodations and transportation to the hardest hit / nearly impossible to find places in Ulster County, NY. All is NOT well, despite FEMA + CNN assurances to the contrary. Thank you."
And this
"Update on Upstate NY: Another mini Katrina: There was no govt help so the people of Prattsville (which was utterly devastated) made a makeshift bridge so that they could have a thrufare. (There are still 40 + people missing and 5 dead). Feds arrived to tear down the bridge. Locals told the Feds that they would shoot them. Feds called NYS troopers to arrest the locals and the troopers sided with the locals telling them if Feds touched that bridge they would be arrested!!! ♥"
Other reports that locals need supplies (muck boots, tarps, etc.)
Apparently, Federal response has been inadequate.(Not a surprise ... this storm affected a huge area and millions of people.) I'm wondering how many other small communities are dealing with similar situations right now. In the mean time, sounds like these people really need some help.
So if anyone knows anyone who might be able to help ... please contact the number above.

DOT crews from as far away as Saratoga County have been on-scene since Monday morning. (Jimmy Vielkind / Times Union)

3. Phoenicia is in Ulster Cty |
|
There are some areas in the Catskills such as Phoenicia built on the floodplain that have had some serious damage. Sen. Schumer recently visited Ulster Cty and awarded more FEMA funds. FEMA is located in a resort area and they plan to relocate it in New Paltz. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/05/nyregion/for-a-town-on-a-flood-plain-doubts-about-rebuilding.html?_r=1&pagewanted=1http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/2011/September/06/Irene_Schumer_Phoen-06Sep11.htmlhttp://hudsonvalley.ynn.com/content/all_news/555484/surveying-the-storm-damage-in-ulster-county/There are some bridges out. Although I cannot speak to the charges that the media and people are being lied to and that there are many more people missing. I can only show what I found doing a Google search.
