Former GOP Operative explains why they're batshit crazy.
Confessions of a GOP Operative Who Left "the Cult": 3 Things Everyone Must Know About the Lunatic-Filled Republican Party

"If you think Paul Ryan and his Ayn Rand-worshipping colleagues aren't after your Social Security and Medicare, I am here to disabuse you of your naiveté."

<snip>

"Everyone knows that in a hostage situation, the reckless and amoral actor has the negotiating upper hand over the cautious and responsible actor because the latter is actually concerned about the life of the hostage, while the former does not care."

<snip>

"It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century Europe. This trend has several implications, none of them pleasant."

<snip>

"A couple of years ago, a Republican committee staff director told me candidly (and proudly) what the method was to all this obstruction and disruption. Should Republicans succeed in obstructing the Senate from doing its job, it would further lower Congress's generic favorability rating among the American people. By sabotaging the reputation of an institution of government, the party that is programmatically against government would come out the relative winner."

2. Will people who think the President "caves" actually LISTEN to this from the horse's mouth?
The point has been made over and over that these people are not going to back down in a battle of wills over destroying the country because THEY DO NOT CARE.

They will not do the right thing at the last second.

And their opposition, who does NOT want to destroy the country. gets lambasted as the "loser" for actually being sane.

Ridiculous.

7. Then it requires a change of tactics
Instead of trying to accommodate a faction that doesn't care about governance, operate as far as possible without engaging them at all. And while you're doing it, explain to the public that you aren't about to allow the serious business of government to be derailed by a group that isn't interested in governing. It can be done, but first you have to stop hitting your hand with the hammer (figuratively speaking).

8. You do understand, don't you, that the terrorists usually shoot the hostages anyway?
So in the end result, not complying with their demands loses you nothing, but gains you the moral authority.

Every time you compromise with a terrorist, you LOSE.

9. The Koolaid the RW cult is dispensing is far more lethal than what
Jim Jones dispensed because it is likely to be lethal to millions rather than hundreds. :patriot:
