I'm posting this to remind my fellow Texans to get the hell out if your area is being evacuated! It hurts to lose stuff and things, but it would be worse to lose you. :(

Also, I want to remind the entire DU community how much this situation hurts right now. Good people are out there risking their lives trying to save the lives and homes and pets of other good people. Those of us who haven't lost everything are scared and glued to news sources because new fires are popping up all over the damn place. In the past 24 hours, I've been fearful of 3 different fire outbreaks, each one closer than the last. It sucks and I'm scared.

3. Get out of the way, Texans.
I don't care who is in the path of this, liberal or conservative.

Right now, I hope we don't have any jokes about Texas or the South.

Please keep us posted Fleshdancer, and stay safe.

5. That video is interesting. Notice how the trees themselves do not catch fire
for the most part. The grass and shrubs burn, but the pine trees resist. The dead, dry snags do burn.

8. Having lost my home to fire--with no warning--4 years ago
here are the things to put in your car NOW:

Photo albums

Personal papers--documents, financial papers, proof
of cost for anything in your house.

Video of your whole house interior.

Carriers for pets.

Be sure to take your laptop--or a copy of everything on your computer.

Good luck!

Edit: Saw you said pet carriers. ;)

I have extra food and water for my furbabies as well. Oh and a thumbdrive from your computer works well. :)

We seem to out of danger right now, but that could all change. The fires have been erratic.

17. I saw a horrible one starting up just north of you (by the Houston statue)
on my way down from Dallas on I-45 last week. You are super close to where we are. Today I realized that the smart thing to do would be to be ready.
