Right wing criticizes DEEPLY INFLAMMATORY free t-shirts at Tucson memorial service:
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 10:03 PM by Ken Burch

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/01/conservatives-criticize-free-tshirts-at-tucson-service.php?ref=fpa

:sarcasm:

"TUCSON, AZ -- Some conservatives are upset over t-shirts bearing the logo "Together We Thrive: Tucson & America" that were handed out to attendees at tonight's memorial service in the McKale Center on the campus of the University Of Arizona here.

The shirts, which bear the same logo that adorns other items from the event -- including press passes, signage and volunteer t-shirts -- were placed on many of the seats in the lower sections of the arena when tonight's capacity crowd walked in."

Shocking, shocking. Can't possibly have a message of unity and healing at this event. That's just TOO polarizing.

The t-shirts could have had nothing but silkscreens of kittens and puppies and these people would STILL have been indignant.

38. Ummm, you mean SURVEYORS MARKS...
I had the thought to make a decal for my car. It would have Palin's lovely face with a SURVEYOR'S MARK on her forehead. With the words "surveyor's mark" and an arrow.

Problem is, I wouldn't change the mind of any Conservative, and would probably end up with a vandalized vehicle.

My New Year's Resolution is to avoid engaging with anyone who is closed-minded. My snarky ideas only bring me into their world, at their level.

40. Boy, the live blogging on that site is telling . . .
I could sense that, for all their mean-spirited, juvenile bravado, Obama's speech made them wet their pants. They couldn't acknowledge as much, but deep-down they knew that they had been seriously outclassed.

...If it came out of the UoA budget when tuition is rising and dying people can't get transplant then I say yes this was inappropriate...... If the alumni assosiation paid for them then that is fine....

.....However why do you need to have a slogan/phrase for everything and tragedy anyhow.

35. Since all they have is demonization of democrats, as opposed to a coherent political philosophy,
then it follows they'd react with anger to the concept of unity.

Get it straight: They don't have any desire or intention to seek a cooperative, respectful relationship with Dems. In their dark, petty souls, they believe only in the destruction of their political opposition; the concept of inclusiveness is anathema to them.

Also, they know there are decent persons on the right, who do want less polarization, who don't favor the politics of hatred and bigotry. Even worse, some of those people undoubtedly were moved by Obama's speech. That's got to feel very threatening to their leaders, their base, and their media mouthpieces -- who have nothing to offer except those things.

From the comments section:

in reply to danielhsavio
"Actually I am one of those dreadful Republicans but alas, you made a very good point. All this silly grandstanding about the celebration of the lives of those killed and remembrance of the sacrifice of those fighting for their lives seem like good, old. patriotic American behavior. Folks, just ignore those far out, really disgusting right wingers in my party who are so silly they have to run down everything in which our President participates. Frankly, all it does this time is make these complainers seem like the latest incarnation of Scrooge! Plus it is terribly disrespectful of the dead!"

Now, if only there were more republicans as respectful of our president...
