Republican Governors Are At the Controls in the Nation's Worst Economies
Republican Governors Are At the Controls in the Nation's Worst Economies

A recent study identified "The 10 States With the Worst Economies in America." Seven of the 10 states have had Republican governors for the majority of the past eight years. Half of the states have had GOP governors for all of the past eight years.

Moral of the story: If you want your state's economy to suck really bad, vote Republican.

Joshua Holland, an editor and senior writer at AlterNet, conducted the study. Here is his list of economic ignominy. You probably will not be shocked to learn that six of the 10 states are from the Southeast, with our very own Alabama right in the midst of the misery:

1. Mississippi
2. Nevada
3. West Virginia
4. California
5. Alabama
6. Florida
7. South Carolina
8. Michigan
9. Georgia
10. Kentucky

2. Well I certainly understand Nevada,
What with tourism sucking and the California “investors” creating a god awful housing bubble, but California? Ahnold sure screwed up that place. I just came back from a long weekend in San Diego (I admit to being a Zonie) and holey crap what a change from 2 years ago. People living in tents and cops rousting the cars and campers from the city streets? I was staying with an old Air Force buddy and he was saying that his little retirement condo has lost half its value since ’03 but the taxes are still going up. But he says the “swells” living up in the gated country club communities, living in their million dollar McMansions, are still as snotty as ever and never pass up an opportunity to let “his type” know that they aren’t really welcome. I guess they’re trying to enforce some old squatting laws from the depression era. He actually thinks that the “street people” will soon crash those wimpy little gates and start pitching their tents on the private tennis courts and golf courses and taking baths in all those swimming pools.
