Cain promotes '9-9-9' tax plan, lays out his economic policies
By: CNN.com Political Producer Martina Stewart

<snip>

(CNN) - On the eve of rival Mitt Romney's speech announcing his own jobs plan, Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain laid out his own plan for turning the sagging economy around.

Speaking Monday in South Carolina at the Palmetto Freedom Forum sponsored by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-South Carolina, Cain laid out his "bold" plan dubbed "9-9-9." The former businessman explained that he would do away with the existing tax code and replace it with a nine percent tax on corporate income, a nine percent tax on personal income and a nine percent national sales tax.

4. German grammar-spelling Nazi here. I think you meant to write 'neun, neun, neun'. But
what you actually wrote translates literally to 'No, no, no' (which got a big chuckle out of me :)

if unintended. (I think it's funnier if it wasn't intended, kind of like JFK saying, "Ich bin ein Berliner!" :) I know JFK didn't mean to say he was a delicious pastry :)

5. Correct me if I'm wrong
I understand regressives are pushing flat rate taxing...but this seems to cut peoples' tax rates by more than 50%...and this would fix the deficit in what way?

That's ignoring that flat taxes are deceptively fair looking...

6. Huge tax increase for me. I make about $35 grand. I'm single too.
9% is more than my effective federal rate is now. Add 9% sales on top of that and yikes! How many people that don't realize what they really pay will think that's a good deal?

9. Ultimately, with 999, the richest would pay less taxes, the poorest would pay more.
Therefore, he presents a strong Rebunglian platform.
