Dozens of fish heads mysteriously appear on Interstate 5

Call it the Great Fish Head Mystery.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a 911 dispatcher received word of a roadway hazard on northbound Interstate 5.

“Our initial call said there was seafood on the roadway and it stunk,” Trooper Julie Startup said. “So we had a trooper go out there and sure enough there were a lot of fish heads in lane 1.

“People were driving through them and making kind of a mess.”

But nobody reported seeing a vehicle drop the load of fish heads there. Troopers received no calls from people who had lost their load, and it’s unclear if the fish heads – about the size of a fist, troopers say – were dumped there on purpose or lost by accident.
