.XXX web domain registration begins
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14821192

Companies and celebrities are being given the chance to protect their names from porn hijacking ahead of the launch of the .xxx web domain.

From today, brands can request to have their name blocked from use with the new suffix, which goes live next year.

Existing adult entertainment sites can also submit their application to reserve a spot on .xxx

The "red light" suffix is intended to make it easier to find or avoid sexually explicit material online.

3. NetworkSolutions is offering "protection" for trademarked names for about $650 for 5 years
You have to provide proof of your trademark, and agree not to deploy a .xxx Web site using that name during the 5-year period.

I checked and found that ibm.xxx, microsoft.xxx, and apple.xxx are listed as "available." I rather doubt that the big players would bother paying protection money. They'd just sue the pants off someone who violated their trademarks.

7. There should be a prohibition on the use of trademark names
and famous people as part of the offering. There should be no need to pay a fee to be protected.

8. I see it as similar to "protection" schemes offered on personal credit cards
You really don't need it.
