They could really use it. We had a LOT of rain today as the last remains of Lee went by.

This is my back yard. There are two streams, each more than three feet below the level of the yard. The one behind the mini barn can not be seen in this clip, but the one on the side of the house is raging. Also, watch the three deer come into the shot, then watch as Mama leaves the kids and hightails it out. The kids eventually made the same leap.

Here's the max height the stream got. The stream behind the mini barn can also be seen. All told, this was a rise of nearly four feet ins about two or three minutes The water subsided nearly as fast. Quite amazing.

The whole area from Richmond, VA to DC and on into PA was hit with a LOT of heavy rain. This is early in the storm, in our small town's downtown. The water, historically, has been above the train tracks. Today this flooded a few feet higher than this video shows. This is a bigger stream so the water built slower. A little later than this clip, there was a fast water rescue team in this spot to extract some people caught in the flood.

This is a bit uphill from the previous clip, maybe 8 - 10 feet higher. The building, like all others in this block on on this side of the street, is built across the stream and is perhaps 12 feet above it, normally. These folks don't know what's yet to come.

This is far up a hill from the previous clip, probably 40 feet above. Watch the town dump truck. Then, toward the end, watch as the minivan is damn near swept away.

1. I said the same thing to a friend in Austin today...

I'm on the Gulf Coast, and have standing water all over the place. Would gladly share some with the folks in Austin if I were able.

2. Something is totally screwing up our weather patterns - none of it makes sense

By now the gulf should have been hit with a couple of hurricane/trop storms and yet it was only one loose mass that has hit.

Vermont and Connecticut are suffering from severe hurricane damage in almost a century.

Something is not right out there that's for sure!

5. I was thinking the same, usually by this time of the year

we've had two or three cat 2s cross the Florida Straits and meander throughout the Gulf of Mexico. This year so far the main thrust has been getting to Bermuda and curving north/northeast. I'm not discounting TS Lee just popping up in the Gulf either. That's a strange occurence. Then there is this cold front coming down the middle of the country. To me it's a might early for that. Usually on the west coast of Florida in the Tampa bay area we used to get our first front right around 9/30, the past three years they've been later, like November.

You're right though, something is not right.

we've been getting a lot of rain in CT the last couple of days and the ground was soaked before Irene came in last week.

I'm glad my house isn't prone to flooding but I know some people that have been pumping basements.

7. We're in Middletown now

We've been here for about 5 years and spent about 3 before that in Madison. We only lost power for about 14 hours during Irene but my friends and co-workers in Madison didn't get it back until last Saturday night, pretty much a full week.
