So what did we learn from the President's speech tonight?
Reading through these threads, nothing it would seem.

1. I thought he handled the entire shooting incident beautifully
haven't heard the speech yet (night worker; always out of the loop)

2. I saw it more as honoring those that had passed and to reflect.
I'm not sure about necessarily learning anything as much as connecting.

3. I've learned he gives rousing speeches that can positively impact most people
But I already learned that in 08.

21. His rousing speeches won't positively impact people unless he decided to finally call the Repubs...
on their incitement of violence. I doubt he will.

4. I've learned
that everything is about Sarah Palin.

I thought it odd myself, but all of the top 10 top-recced threads can't be wrong, can they?

6. Under the circumstances, I thought it was pretty good.
He didn't shy away from the role that news cycles and partisanship play, which was more than I dared to hope for.

13. It's so funny
How we all gather to listen to an incredibly inspiration speech that calls on us all to elevate the dialogue. To find the best in our fellow citizens. To be our best selves. We weep. We cheer.

And 5 minutes later we're back to sniping at everyone we perceive to be our enemy.

15. What are we supposed to post to further this?
I'm not sure what the required action is other than to not comment on the righties. That's the "what not to do". What is the "what to do" side.

I know, I know. I won't let the door hit my ass on the way out.

In 2008, it was all about gloating about our victory and railin on Palin. In 2010, it's all about bitching about losing the house and railin on Palin.

What are WE doing about elevating the dialogue? What are WE doing to make a positive contribution? Why are 90% of the threads negative? Why is everyone so pissed off? Why do we assume the worst about everyone, even our fellow liberal posters when we disagree with them? It's become depressing as fuck around here.

You loved his speech. But you're not willing to walk the walk.
