Perry's death penalty remarks: the BIGGER story |
|
Both Perry's remarks, and the GOP audience's vomit-inducing response, disgusting as both were, shouldn't really come as a surprise. The MUCH bigger story in all this is the question of why Brian Williams failed to press him specifically about the case of wrongfully executed Cameron Todd Willingham. In my opinion, Williams' letting Perry's non-answer slide the way he did makes him no better than Perry or the goons in the audience.

1. Not sure a debate is the right venue for that. I think an interview |

where Perry is the only participant would be better. The debates are to show people how the contenders stand on the issues so bringing up a controversial call wasn't really appropriate, IMO.
Nail him at a time when you can keep coming back at him after every weasely answer. Debates only allot so much time for each candidate and response.

2. The press is excellent at letting slide what they feel like letting slide. |

They get to decide. Not us.

Governor for executions. Later, as President he plunged us into two wars. Perry seems to feel killing is justified. I wonder how many wars he will get us into? I wonder if he's the kinda person who drools over the idea of carrying the codes to Armageddon?
