OMG, Tom Colburn is making sense... |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 03:27 PM by WCGreen
with his patent legislation that is.
He cobbled together a bipartisan piece of legislation that has the two senators from California as well as Jim "I ain't crazy, you is" DeMint...
I know he is a bat shit crazy fundamentalist, but he seems to be at least looking to do some good, placed the blame on congress and not president Obama.
Sometimes you have to give props when props are due.
On Edit...
Sorry, I did what I often complain about... Posting something and not explaining...
The legislation would increase funding to the patent office. Right now, it takes, on average, 24 months to get a first look after filing for a patent. Senator Colburn was talking about how that is impeding the growth of small business in this country.
He made it a point to say that CONGRESS has been raiding the Patent Office as a source of easy money...

10. All I know for sure is that it takes way to long to get a patent through |
|
the process and it is stifling small time inventors.
And if you say it will help out Big Pharma, well, I agree that isn't a good thing.

7. Someday (I hope soon), some of the smarter ones will figure out that getting nothing |
|
done and ending up their career with zilch to show for it, is like eating sawdust. With a few of those, Obama might be able to get some helpful legislation through Congress.
A little self interest here might just be the key...they can't all the utter defeatists...

9. Well if it's a good bill, our side will support it because they |
|
aren't playing those NO! games.
And I agree - give credit where credit is due. There ARE some okay Republicans still left, but I've heard our guys say they've been told that if the do/don't play along, they won't be reelected. Isn't it sad that that's the current state of affairs? :(

Some of those who are making the threats to other republicans to "play ball" or else, also may not be reelected. Maybe some of these republicans that are starting to come around found out when they went home on break last month that the "REAL" people, not the corporation, are pissed off and want something done NOW instead of seeing all the politics they see in D.C.!
I think a whole lot of "buyers remorse" will be seen next hear come the elections, and some of those who are doing all the can to make sure the president is a one term president, at the expense of this country and the people who live here, are going to be looking for a new job come Jan. 2013!

14. Sense about red herrings |
|
The Patent Office has very little to do with small business in this country. Plumbers, drywallers, hairdressers, grocers, steamfitters, auto repair shops, and farmers aren't having any trouble growing their business because of patents; it's because people don't have money to buy what they have to sell.
Now, Monsanto, yes, they would benefit if the Patent Office was able to work through the pile that Monsanto keeps adding to their inbox. Patents that will, once they are granted, screw the farmer, screw anyone with seed cleaning equipment, and screw over anyone trying to grow stuff without being contaminated by Monsanto's genes.
The Patent Office tilts the playing table in favor of those who can afford large legal departments, which are usually large, and NOT small business.

18. Yea, but there are tons of guys and gals tinkering around and discovering |
|
stuff that can make them some money if the process is sped up.
And yes, Monsanto profit from this but so will thousands of other people...
