It's ironic that you hear right-wingers accuse us of viewing Obama as a "messiah" and whatnot when they themselves literally believed Bush was God's right-hand man. But the fact is, Obama actually exhibits Christ-like behavior, expecially compared to his opponents.

Obama seeks peace, Palin seeks war and violence
Obama has a reasonable view on gun control, Palin and her fans think everyone over age 2 should be armed to the teeth
Obama seeks to help everyone, Palin only seeks to help herself and the rich
Obama is professional and civil, Palin is bumbling at best and incendiary at worst
Obama's campaign rallies are civil, Palin's resemble lynch mobs and/or Nazi rallies
Obama tries to reach out to his political opponents, Palin seeks to utterly destroy hers (literally, it seems)

By their fruits ye shall know them. But, of course, when all is said and done, all that should matter to True Christians(TM) is abortion and homosexuality :sarcasm:

"True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring." MLK

...

One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life's highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say: "This is not just." It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America and say: "This is not just." The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just. A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war: "This way of settling differences is not just." This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love. A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.

...

I say to you today, that if our nation can spend thirty-five billion dollars a year to fight an unjust, evil war (...), and twenty billion dollars to put a man on the moon, it can spend billions of dollars to put God's children on their own two feet right here on earth...

I want to say to you as I move to my conclusion, as we talk about "Where do we go from here?" that we must honestly face the fact that the movement must address itself to the question of restructuring the whole of American society. There are forty million poor people here, and one day we must ask the question, "Why are there forty million poor people in America?" And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising a question about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I'm simply saying that more and more, we've got to begin to ask questions about the whole society. We are called upon to help the discouraged beggars in life's marketplace. But one day we must come to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. It means that questions must be raised. And you see, my friends, when you deal with this you begin to ask the question, "Who owns the oil?" You begin to ask the question, "Who owns the iron ore?" You begin to ask the question, "Why is it that people have to pay water bills in a world that's two-thirds water?" These are words that must be said.

...

I haven't noticed Obama scourging the moneychangers *or* the phoney 'religious'.

Nor do I recall that Christ increased the Defense Budget & conducted a three-front war.

23. Holy drones?
Comparisons of political leaders to divinities makes me shudder. Obama isn't seen in that way, but the way some palinistas view their Mama Grisly is scary. In the end, though, when the palinistas gaze heavenward for a sign, I suspect they're just looking for the mothership. :)

22. "I come not in peace, but with a sword."
Did you miss that part of what Jesus said?k He is here to break up families and send people to hell, among other things.

(the alleged) Jesus (allegedly) said all sorts of contradictory stuff, so a Christian, being self identifying, can do ANYTHING they want to and still be a Christian.

Jesus was often a badass who said lots of evil and cruel things and condoned the mass murders of the OT.

That's one of many reasons why I am not a Christian. I realize there are good Christians out there as well as bad ones. I know some of the good ones and do not associate with the bad ones.

The Bible is a terrible book to be a moral guide. Its superstitious world view is not adequate morality for our world.

Obama is being dignified and statesmanlike.

I thought his speech was excellent and he is getting even better at speeches.

26. Not everyone is a Christian, or wants a theocracy (no matter their faith-lack of faith)
All I want from a president/legislator, is an open mind, a questioning intellect, an even-handed demeanor & the ability to understand/explain the issues they support.

I expect them to understand macro v micro, and to put the good of the commons above the narrow interest of the few.

I do not want a religious "Daddy".. I prefer a secular "Uncle"

I have to say that I find the idea of putting a politician on a religious pedestal, assigning him or her religious significance, and/or equating him with a religious prophet to be ignorant, dangerous, and in poor taste, to say the least.
