Watching Countdown
and one of the discussed issues is P Obama's tone within the speech, and how for this speech, he seemed to be more confrontational in some ways. After having some familiarity with that kind of a method of reaction.

Quite some years ago, when Yahoo was like the #2 search engine, just before it went to ground, I used to run several webpages and sites. During those days, having your sites listed at Yahoo was very important. Some sites lived or died by getting the right publicity, and so you would try numerous attempts to make that happen. The problem with Yahoo was that they didn't run the kind of search that Google revolutionized--every link at the time was reviewed by human beings, and preferences were given to certain sites, especially those who contributed money to Yahoo for inclusion. So you could re-submit your site ad infinitum and you could still never get listed.

My attitude toward them grew particularly bitter because I ran several sites, and the unending rejection was hardly an ego booster. I finally decided that "Yahoo Sucks!" which was an attitude that many others and I shared.

I found some sites who were more bold in this determination, and read them, vicariously gaining some solace that Yahoo was not universally loved. Then I read a site that made me get some hope back. This person was a webmaster like myself, and underwent the same kind of rejection I had. And THEN he wrote a webpage called "Yahoo Sucks!" for all the world to see, and suddenly, his website submissions to Yahoo were were accepted! Yes: it required an "in your face" type attitude in order to get satisfaction from Yahoo.

And so, going home with this revelation, I put together a page that told of my struggle with Yahoo in website submissions, and the constant tone of superiority that Yahoo used to allow some people links, and yet rejected equally well done sites in a capricious fashion. Then it went online. I then re-submitted my sites to Yahoo. And waited. And finally got them listed.

It required a tone with which I was not very familiar. It required a different attitude--one where I really didn't give a shit. One where I said, "you've humiliated me for making all my efforts look worthless, and now, I'm going to tell the rest of the online community what assholes you really are." (This was about 14 years ago, so yeah--there were a lot of less people online, and we were a worldwide community.)

And it worked. And that's what I saw tonight. I saw Obama finally get it into his head that the key players in the GOP don't give a shit about him, so he needed to direct his comments to the people of the country. And THAT's what I heard tonight. And maybe, just maybe, the GOP, like Yahoo, will blink.

3. President Obama wants us to act too. Our actions take time; come to fruition in the 2012 election.

President Obama said, correctly, we can't wait that long for the 2012 elections.

Did anyone get a clear idea what we, the non-business owners, can do, to help the economy?
I suspect most of us are non-business owners.

6. Hard to believe he didn't know they hated him from the day he got elected.
He is lashing out now because "it's time". Election season has begun.

7. Yep, I think this speech was a turning point for him and us, he's finally gotten it,
many of the repugs have absolutely no interest in working with him other than to destroy his presidency. And I don't think he mentioned the word compromise once, bipartisan I believe, but he did not drone on the compromise word ... refreshing.
