The utterly astonishing poll numbers on the anti gay amendment in NC
In 2008, Californians over 65 split 61 to 39 in favor of prop 8. In North Carolina a bare majority oppose the NC amendment. That is an improvement of about 11 points. In 2008, African Americans voted at least 60 to 40 in favor of prop. 8. In North Carolina they are splitting 61 to 39 against the amendment. That is an improvement of 20 points. Yes, prop 8 is far less restrictive than the proposition being considered in North Carolina but folks, we are talking about the state that reelected Jesse Helms in 1996. I am still skeptical about these numbers on some level but we have now seen three polls with similar results. If we were to actually defeat this at the polls in NC it would be the shot heard round the country. These numbers suggest we might well. Overall we are at 55 to 30 in our favor with 15 undecided.

1. God Bless all of the Yankee transplants moving to North Carolina
In due time they will outbreed the native white Southerners.

4. Some of my most liberal friends are North Carolina natives.

I am a Yankee transplant of 40 years. We moved to North Carolina because of people we met overseas. This group was from small town NC, they were open, friendly and Liberal. I know liberals are in the minority but believe me the Southern Liberal is willing to fight and die for their beliefs. I have met many families who fight prejudice and oppression on every level. Even if it is just 35-40 % of the native population who are liberal that is a lot of good people... There are many college towns, beautiful big cities and peaceful coastal towns ... And in all these places there are open minded people who were born and raised there as were their parents before them. It is such a shame that this last group of nuts got power.. I hope to God we can get rid of them.

5. Things have definitely shifted in the right direction.
The battle's not over yet, but I think the war is winding down.

6. We can I think.
The amendment is utterly ridiculous and people are getting tired of this stuff.
