Seattle had a 6.7 in 2001. It was scary as hell.

feel it. Don't know about Victoria and Vancouver, though.

6. I experienced a 7.1 quake in Bremerton in 1949. One terrified kid, that was me. |
|
Then went through a 6.5 in 1965, plaster falling down around our ears in the building where I worked. Scary as hell indeed! I left my home state for Oregon, where a few years later a 5.6 rocked us. Goes to show--you can run but you can't hide!
Stay safe up there!

I was born in Bremerton, living in Port Orchard when that sucker hit, 4 years old, all alone out in a big field behind our house. It made a siren somewhere in town go off, like an air raid siren, for decades afterwards I would have massive anxiety when I heard sirens at night. Was in Seattle in the '65 quake. Under a table, listening to the dishes fall out of the cupboard.

16. Wow! We share some memories! |
|
My brother (now deceased) was born in Port Orchard, my Dad worked in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and while I don't recall sirens during the '49 quake, it's a moment in time (several moments actually) I'll never forget. My mom spent some time in a TB hospital in Port Orchard when I was very young. Were you born in Harrison Hospital in Bremerton? No need to share more than you'd like, but this is one of those "small world" things.
Glad you survived all that intact, and glad you're a fellow DUer!

15. We didn't notice any shaking at all in Vancouver city. |
|
Nothing. But Vancouver Island residents may have a different story to tell.

7. Just a few seconds of a little tremor in the Comox Valley. |

Nothing to worry about here. Hopefully no aftershocks.

14. Whoa! Checked Google Earth |
|
The article mentioned the epicenter was 86 miles SW of Campbell's River. I used to live near there on an island in the Strait, and took a look on Google Earth. The epicenter is marked with a little jagged icon, and the tag says "M6.4, Vancouver Island, Canada region."
This was Google Earth -- didn't find anything similar on Google Maps satellite view.
Just a geeky sidebar to scary natural event :P
