The Greatest Nation On Earth Shouldn't Jam "Free Trade" Down The Earth's Throat

by Jonathan Tasini
Friday 09 of September, 2011

I hate to ruin a good party--or at least the world of the liberal bloviators who want everyone to stand in line and praise the president's speech last night. Heck, I am glad he was there to push for something--ANYTHING--to be done to try to respond to the great crisis we have.

But, I am hurting myself with my self-described "shaking head syndrome" from this line:

Now it's time to clear the way for a series of trade agreements that would make it easier for American companies to sell their products in Panama, Colombia, and South Korea - while also helping the workers whose jobs have been affected by global competition. If Americans can buy Kias and Hyundais, I want to see folks in South Korea driving Fords and Chevys and Chryslers. I want to see more products sold around the world stamped with three proud words: "Made in America."

Along with the fantasy of embracing the phony debt and deficit "crisis" and the entirely pointless knee-jerk inclusion of tax cuts for business, it is really absurd to insert so-called "free trade" into a speech about creating jobs. They don't belong together--unless you happen to be a CEO of a flagless multi-national corporation who does not care a wit about "Made in America" but does love the lower wages people are forced to live on in part because of so-called "free trade". ...........(more)

3. American companies aren't manufacturing in the USA. American cars in Korea would be made in China.
He knows that and was very deceitful with that line.

4. The greatest nation on earth is in a death spiral, and no longer so great ...
because it jammed free-trade bills down its own throat.
