National Lawyers Guild.

As some of you know I'm considering going to law school when I graduate and someone on other forum mentioned the National Lawyers Guild, which is a group of lawyers that quote "dedicated to the need for basic and progressive change in the structure of our political and economic system . . . to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests." Recently I've felt I wanted to do something to help the working people in this country and this seems like a possible good way to get involved and I was just wondering if anyone here had any experience with them or knew anything about them?

I'm doing online research, but I always like to get advice from DUers since they seem more knowledgeable than the average internet poster.

1. Several of the most dedicated and effective people I know are long-term members of the NLG.

The organization has been around for a long time and has a stellar track-record of focused involvement with the kind of issues you're talking about.

Southern Poverty Law Center and ACLU. Have fun!

3. In MN they are AWESOME and LOVE THEM!!!!!!

The are some of the greatest people.

they are our strength so that we can go and protest and at times commit civil disobedience.

They have taught us our civil rights.

They represent us when we go to court.. and yes we pay them and sometimes they can help for free if we are too poor.

They come to events and are legal observers.

I know them for the work they've done around US citizens rights to travel to Cuba. They are great.
