28-year-old dog could be world's oldest
NEW IBERIA, La. (KABC) -- A pooch in Louisiana could be the oldest dog in the world. Max lives in New Iberia, which is near Lafayette.

The cute Terrier mix recently celebrated his 28th birthday - that's 196 in dog years.

(snip)

She sent the Guinness World Records his birth certificate and vet records, but so far, she hasn't received a response.

"He loves to just lounge around the house. He's like an elderly person. He's set in his ways. Everything has been documented and notarized, so I am just waiting to hear something, because I don't want him to pass and not be recognized," said owner Janelle DeRouen.

6. Dog looks damned good for being 196 years old.
I've seen dogs that didn't look as good at half the hage.

9. v. interesting, although i know a large dog over 20, also in louisiana
Edited on Fri Sep-09-11 07:29 PM by pitohui
this dog owner also lived for a time in that area of south central louisiana and she was active in dog rescue/health issues, i'm curious to know if she knows janelle or what vet/foods janelle is using -- i';m guessing the world of old geriatric southern louisiana dogs is a small one so i will try to find out if there are any tips for working w. these old guys

maybe these old dogs like the excitement from our hurricanes!!!

13. The ONLY dog I had lived 21 years,,,, I was a Labor day baby,
and got him as a puppy for my 1st Xmas. Mother was not happy. He was an outside dog. My dad built him a dog house inside of our garage, and cut a dog door in the side of the garage for him to go in and out. The house was up on concrete floor, up on blocks high enough to place bales of hay under.
He also had hay, and old blankets inside this house.
Sandy was his name. A mutt, brown in color, with a single white mark down the center of his head. He chewed his rope in two, when I turned 21, and we never saw him again.
