Sarah Palin is finished. I saw it with my own eyes today. |
|
I was in a room full of die hard conservative GOP voters who watch Fox News constantly. Sarah came on TV (it's always set to Fox in the place where we were), the sound was too low for me to hear what she was talking about or being interviewed about, but I heard open expressions of withering contempt for her that I would never have thought I'd hear spoken out loud by such reliable GOP stalwarts.
These are the high income, high education variety of GOP voters by the way.
The major points were that she was not a credible or serious person, that her quitting the Alaska governorship was unforgivable and unjustifiable, and that the word salad that issues forth any time you hear her speak for more than a minute or two was pretty much evidence of nothing going on inside her head.
The point was made that Fox News was hurting their agenda and damaging their credibility by continuing to have her on their channel and continuing their association with her.
As life in GOP land began to roll on without Sarah these last couple of months, with the flop of her movie and at the Ames poll, I'd begun to get the distinct feeling that her time was already through whether she decided to run or not. But hearing such reliable GOP voters express such contempt out loud among each other pretty much confirmed it beyond any doubt.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure many on their side have been feeling that way about her for a while, but even then I'd expect them to be reluctant to state such views among other right wingers for fear of their disapproval. But not anymore.

1. Finally! I thought Palin's last gasp would be to announce she |
|
was running for President right on the day of Pres. Obama's jobs speech, to trample all over what would be his moment. It would be like her to do so.
Now, having read your post.....I think she is toast.

4. I suppose my point is.. it doesn't matter anymore what she does or doesn't do. |
|
It confirms for me that those polls that showed that 71 percent of Republicans didn't want her to run for president are most certainly accurate. She's just scraping the bottom of the barrel of redneckville.
The stupid Facebook and reality show act since her quitting the governorship has told everyone all they needed to know about the person. All the "will she or won't she" attention whoring bus tour nonsense has worn out even GOPers, they now see it for what it is.
Regardless of actual political beliefs, most people have a "people" sense when someone is being a ridiculous attention seeking superficial person, and even the right wingers now have smelled that distinct odor coming off of Palin.
Of note some of the GOPers were also cursing McCain and wondering how he managed to pick such a nitwit, this is one thing I can agree with them on.
While I'm glad McCain lost, I think if he'd lost in a more respectable way with a more respectable running mate we would likely not be in the exact spot we are in right now. Palin's emergence onto the national scene, "palling around with terrorists" and all the rest, accelerated us into the shitty political universe of Teabaggery we are in right now.
Don't get me wrong, I think all those elements have always existed and been latent in American society, Palin did not invent them. But she definitely accelerated the era where playing directly to the rednecks, openly, has become acceptable in a way it was not before.

It's encouraging to read your observations from "palling around with GOPers". :-)
I live in a really red, rural area in PA. I will be encouraged when I hear the same here.

|
Chris Matthews STILL has her image popping up at the beginning of his show - like she is on par with Obama and Boehner. CNN ruthlessly (another appropriate word) covers her every time she so much as goes to the bathroom. And, as you say, she is still a Fox know-it-all. Ms Quitter would fade rapidly if CBS-NBC-ABC-AP would stop all discussion of her. The only network I have never heard her schreech-owl voice is on the DUMONT television network

For all of her nutjobbery, Bachman seems to understand that running a campaign of your own requires actual work, and that a lot of it goes on when the cameras are off and the crowds are gone. Even if Palin decided to run, she would never have been willing to put in the hard work on the ground that was required. She just wants the attention.

|
Edited on Sat Sep-10-11 07:50 AM by thesquanderer
Interesting... the NYT publishes a piece about how Palin is making some sense talking about the alignment between big business and big government, and around the same time, two major conservatives put her down on Fox, a company run by Ailes and Murdoch, whose worlds revolve around the alignment between big business and big government. I don't think Ingraham and Coulter would have done a segment about the shortcomings of tea party favorite--and Fox contributor--Palin on Fox without getting some kind of tacit approval. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/07/ann-coulter-sarah-palin-laura-ingraham_n_952086.html

You could put a fork in 'er political career the moment Gabby Giffords got shot.
When she posted that congressional map with the crosshairs on it...The moment I saw it, I said that she sure as hell better hope that none of the people on that map gets shot. Although in my heart I had a dreadful feeling that someone would. Regardless of whether or not she is to "blame" or "at fault", it was dumb thing to do. That was the death of her political career. The stalwart GOP fat-cats might want to blame it on quitting the Governorship or some other crap (which are also true). But the truth of the matter is, her political career died the moment that bullet went through Gabby Giffords head.

42. Well, first, let's keep in mind that Sarah probably never intended on running... |
|
...she a grifter, and her lazy ass wants to do as little as possible for as much $$$ as possible. Sarah doesn't want to be president of the U.S. or even run for President of the U.S., that would take time, effort, campaigning--she's did that in 2008 along with all the debates and interviews and questions from the press. She didn't like it. It was work and it was hard and people were mean to her and her family! No. What Sarah wants is all the gravy, the perks that go with being a presidential candidate, but none of the work or chance that she might have to actually do the job. She wants to be what she is--a celebrity. Feted, asked to speak, adored by fans, given money for doing nothing but tossing out slogans, and appearing now and then on tv. That's all she's ever wanted...what else would such a former Beauty Queen want than for people to fawn over her for being their symbol and avatar?
The only time we really had to worry about Palin was during the 2008 election. After she quit as governor of Alaska, it was over; any talk from her of running for president was just a way to keep her face on the cover of Newsweek and keep the stadiums filled with cheering teabaggers.
Which doesn't mean I'm in disagreement that her time is ended. Unfortunately for Sarah, her fifteen minutes are now up. Meaning that even if she hints she'll be running, Newsweek photographers won't be asking to take her picture. And I don't think it's Bachmann who will be taking her place. I think it's Perry. He's an even "prettier" beauty queen and I'm sure the GOP thinks they've got a winner there: the handsome white Christian alternative. I suspect that the GOP has always felt that a woman would be too "iffy." They'll throw Perry up against Obama.
And alas for us...even the high income, high educated GOP will vote for him just to get rid of Obama. Palin might be dead but it's still not save to go back into the water.

She, along with the other Fox Operatives helped make lies and hate speech real crowd pleasers. Here's a few of her ugliest momemts
'Death Panel' meme Revving up T-Baggers nationwide, playing coy with racist rhetoric and violent revolution dogwhistles 'Destroying America' meme Mocking and verbally abusing the President whenever he attempted ANY KIND OF POLICY Mocking Michele Obama for routine FLOTUS things like vegies and fighting childhood obesity 'Lock and Load', 'Retreat, Reload' rhetoric Endorsing and fundraising for the most toxic, hatemongering Baggers for 2010 office

I think this Republican race is going to go on for a long time. I saw a pundit saying (like many) that Perry may have imploded in his first debate with his dramatic defense of his printed words about Social Security. Even many Republicans , who may otherwise like the guy, want to win and they aren't going to nominate a guy who they believe can't win. Perry made himself unelectable with his words in that debate.
I still think they may end up nominating someone who's not even in the race right now.

|
That was to virtually guarantee Obama's election to the presidency.
Voters were a bit apprehensive about voting for a ticket with an old sick man at the helm and an obviously ignorant bimbo as a replacement -should he have to leave office.
So we got Obama instead. Now we can dismantle the social safety net and continue the wars of aggression with the blessing of the Democratic Party and TPTB will be happy as larks at the wisdom of their plan.
It worked to perfection and 2012 is part II. Well, 2012 is actually part IV because 2000 was part I and 2004 was part II.

61. Palin has never appealed to those folks anyway |
|
Her target audience has always been the low information idiots like her. She considers those folks "establishment" and they intimidate her because they are much smarter than her. But then again, my dog is much smarter than her.

62. it's almost a law of nature that right wingers self-destruct |

In fact, Democratic victories and progress over the last hundred years almost always seems to come down to some Republican tool, who had all the resources and propaganda on their side, ruining their own legacy by some huge failure, thereby making the Dems look good until people's memories grew stale and some new round of propaganda could bring them back into undeserved power.
This is good for us right now because people's memories are still pretty fresh. Rick Perry is very easy to paint as a second Bush, and Bachman is easy to paint as a second Palin.
